Mitch McConnell Takes Hard Spill on Senate Basement Floor

We have aging politicians on both sides of the aisle these days. It’s not so much their chronological age – Trump is going on 80 yet seems sharper and more energetic than most 30-year-olds. That’s not the case for many others though: Eighty-two year old Joe Biden had to drop his presidential reelection campaign because he appeared to be too compromised to do the job, former California senator Dianne Feinstein died while in office at the age of 90 after appearing extremely frail in the final years, “Speaker Emerita” Nancy Pelosi (85) was having difficulty walking Wednesday and experienced a very senior moment when she completely lost her temper at a reporter who was asking legitimate questions. Instead of anwering them, or simply ignoring the reporter, she told the young woman to “SHUT UP!”

Then there was the strange case of former Texas Rep. Kay Granger, then 81, who hadn’t been seen in months and was found living in a memory care facility. There are many other examples.

Kentucky GOP Sen. Mitch McConnell, 83, has not been immune to the effects of getting older and has had several public health scares, including “freezing” during speeches and suffering several falls. On Thursday, he took a hard spill in the Russell basement of the Senate. He was walking with the help of an aide, but then he decided he could do it on his own, and apparently lost his balance.

Health Scare: Mitch McConnell Falls in Senate

As we’ve reported, it’s one of numerous mishaps for the former Senate majority leader, who announced in February that he would not seek another term:

Outgoing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) fell over during a Senate lunch on Tuesday [December, 10, 2024) and medical staff were quickly called in. Although Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) said McConnell was “fine,” he reportedly had a cut on his face and needed a wheelchair.

It’s the latest in a series of health issues for the 82-year-old, who had a strange “freezing” episode in August of 2023 after appearing to be unaware of where he was in July of that same year.

The senator’s office has not released a statement as of this writing, and there is no mention of the incident on his X account. RedState will keep you apprised if and when new updates come in.
