Humiliated Gavin Newsom Walks Back Signature Illegal Alien Benefit As Cold Reality Sets In

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is a big talker who constantly tries to tell the world the “Golden State model" is the path forward even while observers can see with their own eyes and wallets that the quality of life on the left coast has declined precipitously. While he and the one-party legislature throw billions at the homeless crisis with nothing to show for it, build boondoggle trains to nowhere, and raise taxes and fees at every opportunity, they wonder why the state at the beginning of this decade suffered its first net population loss since 1850.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that giving illegal aliens free healthcare at taxpayer expense would be a budget buster, but Newsom and Co. did it anyway. You see, he’s not a rocket scientist, and now the chickens have come home to roost, leaving the presidential hopeful with some serious egg on his face:

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s 2025-26 revised budget proposal reneges on his signature policy to provide free healthcare coverage to all low-income undocumented immigrants as costs exceed expectations and the state anticipates challenging economic times ahead.

Newsom’s office said the governor’s spending plan, which will be released late Wednesday morning, calls for requiring all undocumented adults to pay $100 monthly premiums to receive Medi-Cal coverage and for blocking all new adult applications to the program as of Jan. 1.

Ever the gaslighter, Newsom attempted to blame his disastrous state finances on Donald Trump (of course):

To the governor, everything that is predictable is “unexpected”:

Newsom is expected Wednesday to project a deficit for California in the fiscal year ahead, which includes higher than expected Medi-Cal costs, and more significant shortfall estimates in the following years. In the current budget year, the governor and lawmakers approved a $2.8-billion appropriation and took out a separate $3.4-billion loan just to pay for extra expenses for Medi-Cal through June…

California became the first state in the nation to offer healthcare to all income-eligible immigrants one year ago after the expansion was approved by Newsom and the Democratic-led Legislature.

Still not enough when legal citizens cannot afford their insurance premiums and the state is in a budget crisis.

Former President Joe Biden purposefully let in millions of illegal aliens during his term, and “progressive” politicians like Newsom demanded that taxpayers pay for their well-being. It was a plan that anyone with a modicum of a brain in their skull knew was destined for fiscal disaster, and that’s exactly what’s occurred.

It’s laughable that the failed governor of a failing state is even being talked about as a possible presidential contender, but that’s where we are now. Democrats are so far gone that this is the best they’ve got, unless you think that Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker is appealing.

Good luck with that, Dems.

California is the poster child of failed progressive ideology.
