Original story:

A truck plowed into pedestrians in Boston Tuesday afternoon, injuring an unknown number of victims. We do know however that at least two are in critical condition.

There are few details at this time:

It wasn't immediately clear how many people were hurt in total in the incident near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Kneeland Street, reported about 12:48 p.m., according to a Boston police spokesman, who noted the investigation was very early.

Asked if the incident appeared accidental, the spokesman said only that the investigation was very active.

Firefighters freed the trapped driver of the truck from its cab, according to the Boston Fire Department, which noted the vehicle had hit multiple poles along the street and was stuck between one and a building.

The driver of the truck, which was emblazoned with the “Penske” logo, appears to have hit multiple objects and ended up wedged between a lamp post and what looks like a Chinese restaurant.

A yellow rental box truck was seen on its side at the scene of the crash, with first responders surrounding it. The truck was taped off, with broken glass and damaged infrastructure nearby.

The road was closed between Tyler and Washington streets, according to police. The area is near Boston's Chinatown.

This social media user reports that there were at least five people hit, but that has not been officially confirmed.

Emergency crews rushed in, and all five are at hospitals now—condition’s TBD. Cops aren’t saying yet if it was an accident, a breakdown, or on purpose.

Authorities have used the word “multiple” to describe the number of injuries but have not given an exact number. They also have not indicated if they think this tragedy was accidental or on purpose.
