If you watched some of the lawfare surrounding Trump the last few years as Biden’s DOJ and local prosecutors like New York Attorney General Letitia James relentlessly hounded him, you likely noticed the photogenic, always-smiling lawyer Alina Habba. She always seemed to have a hard-hitting quote at hand as she fought for her client.

Now the president has given her a new gig:

Trump’s full tweet reads:

It is with great pleasure that I am announcing Alina Habba, Esq., who is currently serving as Counselor to the President, and has represented me for a long time, will be our interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, her Home State, effective immediately! Alina will lead with the same diligence and conviction that has defined her career, and she will fight tirelessly to secure a Legal System that is both “Fair and Just” for the wonderful people of New Jersey. Additionally, John Giordano, who has done a terrific job as the interim U.S. Attorney in New Jersey, will now be nominated as the new Ambassador to Namibia! Congratulations to Alina and John!

Even though Habba came out on the losing end of some of her cases, she was noted for her fierce defense of Trump. In December, she was named as a Counselor to the President, and I wrote at the time:

Habba served as lead attorney in the ridiculous E. Jean Carroll defamation lawsuit against Trump, and was part of Trump's legal team in the equally dubious real estate fraud case brought by crusading Attorney General Letitia James. Although Habba and the president-elect came out on the losing end of both of those cases, the obvious abuse of the system was noticed by voters, and the more and more lawfare that ensued, the higher Trump’s approval ratings rose.

Following the announcement, Habba spoke to reporters and said that she would be focused on “corruption” and “injustice” in the Garden State, specifically naming Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and NJ Gov. Phil Murphy (D) as having “failed the state.”

“I look forward to working with Pam Bondi with the Department of Justice and making sure that we further the president’s agenda of putting America first, cleaning up mess and going after the people that we should be going after, not the people that are falsely accused,” she said. “That will stop in the great state of New Jersey, starting now.”

Her first work for Trump was regarding a defamation case:

A first-generation American who runs an eponymous law firm, she entered Trump’s orbit when she took over a defamation lawsuit brought against Trump by former “Apprentice” contestant Summer Zervos, who later dropped the case.

She also represented Trump in a civil lawsuit against 2016 presidential rival Hillary Clinton, the Democratic National Committee and dozens of other defendants, which resulted in a federal judge sanctioning Trump and Habba nearly $1 million for a “continuing pattern of misuse of the courts.”

Congratulations to Ms. Habba.
