CNN Embarrasses Itself Yet Again: Trump Was Right About Transgender Mice Studies

CNN went on a fact-checking frenzy after Trump’s Tuesday night speech to a joint session of Congress, but they forgot to do one thing: check the facts. In one of the epic diatribes of the address, the president lambasted the waste in the federal government that has been uncovered by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and pointed out many of the most ridiculous examples—including transgender studies on mice.

Trump:

Just listen to some of the appalling waste we have already identified: $22 billion from HHS to provide free housing and cars for illegal aliens, $45 million for diversity, equity and inclusion scholarships in Burma, $40 million to improve the social and economic inclusion of sedentary migrants. Nobody knows what that is. $8 million to promote LGBTQ+ in the African nation of Lesotho, which nobody has ever heard of, $60 million for indigenous peoples and Afro-Colombian empowerment in Central America. $60 million. $8 million for making mice transgender. [Laughter.]

This is real.

Well, it didn’t take long for CNN to get their knickers in a twist and try to trip up the president, but they failed badly:

CNN’s Deidre McPhillips initially tried to dispute the claim, arguing only about $500,000 had been allocated for similar research in monkeys — she was later forced to issue a correction after the White House proved CNN’s “fact check” inaccurate in a statement

A Ruling on PolitiFact's Measure of President Trump's Speech: Mostly Flawed

The Trump White House 2.0 wasn’t about to take her “fact check” lying down, so they issued a blistering statement on the WH website Wednesday:

Last night, President Donald J. Trump highlighted many of the egregious examples of waste, fraud, and abuse funded by American taxpayers, including $8 million spent by the Biden Administration “for making mice transgender.”

The Fake News losers at CNN immediately tried to fact check it, but President Trump was right (as usual).

FACT: Under the Biden Administration, the National Institutes of Health doled out millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded grants for institutions across the country to perform transgender experiments on mice.

  • $455,000: “A Mouse Model to Test the Effects of Gender-affirming Hormone Therapy on HIV Vaccine-induced Immune Responses”
  • $2,500,000: “Reproductive Consequences of Steroid Hormone Administration”
    • “These mice manifest defects in ovarian architecture and have altered folliculogenesis.”
  • $299,940: “Gender-Affirming Testosterone Therapy on Breast Cancer Risk and Treatment Outcomes”
    • “We will compare the incidences and tumor specific survival in female mice (intact) and oophorectomized female mice receiving TT with their respective counterparts that do not receive TT.”
  • $735,113: “Microbiome mediated effects of gender affirming hormone therapy in mice”
  • $1,200,000: “Androgen effects on the reproductive neuroendocrine axis”
    • “Aim 2 utilizes transgenic mice to test whether male-level androgens acting via AR specifically in kisspeptin neurons are necessary and/or sufficient for androgen inhibition of in vivo LH pulse parameters, including pulse frequency, and the estrogen-induced LH surge.”
  • $3,100,000: “Gonadal hormones as mediators of sex and gender influences in asthma”
    • “We will study the contributions of estrogens to HDM-induced asthma outcomes using male and female gonadectomized mice treated with estradiol…”

TOTAL: $8,290,053

Kaboom.Game, set and match.

CNN furiously tried to clean up the mess but was still left with egg on their faces:

Currently, their page says Trump’s claim “needs context,” which is what weaselly fact-checkers at weaselly places like CNN use as a way to say, “We can’t prove it’s false, but we don’t like it, so we’ll throw out a disapproving meaningless phase." (Only time will tell if they have to update it yet again).

Actually, Trump's statement doesn’t need context—it seems pretty obvious that our taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be thrown at most of this crud.

At this point, it’s almost like CNN enjoys humiliating itself.
