Conservative British Author Masterfully Nukes Piers Morgan's Hamas Appeasement Talking Points

Townhall/Katie Pavlich

British commentator Piers Morgan reminds me of comedian Bill Maher—they both seem at times to “get it,” but then other times they are spectacularly wrong. Conservative author and fellow Brit Douglas Murray, however, destroyed Morgan’s argument Tuesday that everything could be solved in the Israel-Hamas conflict if only Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would bend the knee and “compromise” with the terrorists.

Morgan started out by arguing that the problem was the Israeli PM’s “intractable position.” Murray wasn’t having it:

But there again, if I can say so, Piers, it's the same thing, which is the presumption that it's Netanyahu who is uncompromising.

…In my view, it is not Netanyahu who's uncompromising. It's Hamas that is uncompromising. They could have handed back the hostages last October. They could have not done this [Oct. 7].

I mean, they could have tried to build a state since 2005, when Israel withdrew from Gaza and handed the place over to them. Hamas could have used the billions of dollars and pounds and Euros that British and European and American taxpayers gave them since 2006. They could have used those billions of dollars to build up Gaza; they could have made a booming—in the good sense of the term—Mediterranean paradise.

Brilliantly said. This is the reality that the protesters and the anti-Israel crowd continue to ignore—the two sides in this conflict are not morally equivalent, and it’s Hamas, not Israel, who caused the bloodshed and is still hell-bent on the destruction of the Jewish state.

The tweet continues:

He completely shut down Pierce [sic] Morgan’s argument, clarifying that Hamas, not Netanyahu, is the true obstacle for peace...

But most importantly, he explained that peace with Hamas is fundamentally impossible, as they value conflict and death, not peace and life; thus, unless Israel is allowed to decisively win, the cycle of violence will continue ad infinitum.

Murray had plenty more to say about the fanaticism of Hamas, but he summed up his view by pointing out that we’re naïve if we think some magical compromise is going to end the violence in the Middle East:

Historically, most wars end because one side wins and one side loses, and one of the reasons, in my view, why there is this endless rounds of war in this region is because the Israelis are never allowed to win, and Hamas in this case are always allowed to draw. And I think that that is simply to set up the precursor for the next conflict. If Hamas come out of this with a fighting capability, then there will be another round of this war in a couple of years.

…everybody wants peace except for Hamas and the fanatics.

Watch Morgan's face during the exchange... it's priceless. Douglas Murray 1, Piers Morgan 0.
