A mob of over 100 looters fresh off a street takeover smashed a Kia Soul through the door of a 48-year-old Compton bakery around 3 a.m. Tuesday and proceeded to rob just about anything they could get their hands on and vandalize the place.
Street takeovers have become a serious problem in recent years in Los Angeles County, which Compton is a part of. At least six people died during or near street takeovers in 2022.
The Kia had been involved in a pursuit earlier in the day.
The mob, which mostly seemed to consist of young people, showed zero concern for the owners of the bakery or the destruction of their livelihood as they wantonly lay waste to the establishment.

They know they’re untouchable, and will keep on doing this!

The motley group had to walk over a mile to get to the bakery, and once there, many of them hid their faces:
The thieves had gathered in the area for an illegal street takeover around 3 a.m. Tuesday before making the mile-long trek to Ruben’s Bakery & Mexican Food.
When they got to the locked store, a white Kia backed into the front doors, clearing an entryway for the crowd of pillagers to get to their loot.
Security footage captured the chaotic scene in the store as the mob filled their arms and pockets with as much as they could before the store was set to open in three hours.
A majority of the looters attempted to conceal their identities by either wearing masks or holding their hoods over their faces with their hands.
Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Capt. Melissa Ramirez said they stole whatever they could get their hands on: meat scales, meat, groceries, lotto tickets – anything and everything.
Here’s another angle of the depravity:

This is far from the first time recently that we have witnessed this type of lawlessness in LA, and while smash and grabs have been reported in many cities across the country, the Golden State has been particularly hard hit. An almost identical scene occurred in late summer 2022 in the Harbor Gateway section of the city:

And at the Topanga Mall in August 2023:

There have been many other such incidents; these are just a sampling.
The owners of the bakery, the Ramirez family, say they suffered at least $75,000 in damages and losses from the mob action. They have set up a GoFundMe appeal to help the panadería survive the attack.
When police arrived at the bakery, the crowd quickly dispersed and wait for it… no arrests were made.
Why do these events keep happening? I and other writers at RedState have written extensively on the soft-on-crime policies of woke District Attorney George Gascón, who hasn’t met a criminal he doesn’t like, and the state’s terrible Proposition 47, which lowered many crimes from felonies to misdemeanors. Meanwhile, Gov. Gavin Newsom has done exactly nothing effective to slow the trend.
In a nutshell, progressive policies lead to chaos – and chaos is exactly what you’ve got in Los Angeles.
