Trump Says at Fox News Town Hall He'd Need Only Six Months to Turn Country Around

Former President Donald Trump appeared before an enthusiastic crowd Thursday at a Fox News Town Hall hosted by commentator Sean Hannity. The two discussed a variety of topics, but the exchange that stands out is Trump’s vow to turn things around in this country within six months if elected.

But first, Hannity’s intro, in which he slammed the last host of a Trump Town Hall, CNN:

Hannity:

Unlike fake news CNN, it’s not my job to sit here and debate the candidate. We are going to ask him about the issues of the day that matter to the people – the voters who will also have their questions as well. Nothing is off the table.

I know not everyone is a fan of Hannity, but he’s spot on here. It’s all too true that Republicans appearing on corporate media networks never get a word in edgewise because they’re constantly being interrupted.

The conversation then turned to bread-and-butter issues as Hannity asked him, “How quickly can you shift gears and move this country?”  Trump took a shot at Florida Governor Ron DeSantis before explaining what he would do:

I think very quickly…

I heard DeSanctis saying, oh, well I get eight years, I get eight years—he gets four. Well, you don’t need four and you don’t need eight—you need six months. Within six months, I said. [Applause.] Within six months, this can be done…

You need six months. We’re going to drill. We’re going to get our energy down. When the energy comes down, other things come down, and we’re going take care of things. We’re going to immediately close up the border—we had the greatest border, we had the safest border in the history of our country. Now we have the worst border in the history of the world…

There, there’s never been a third world country that allowed people to pour in to a country…

What’s happening to our country…

The crowd seemed to be enjoying what the former president was saying:

Trump went on to slam President Biden for his handling of energy, pointing out that POTUS had nearly emptied the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to improve Democrat election prospects in the 2022 midterms:

In fact, I had it so low [the price of oil] that we had to raise it or they would have all been out of business. We had so much oil, we didn’t know what to do with it. We bought a lot of it for very little, for the Strategic National Reserve that he [Biden] then took to keep the prices down before an election.

You know, we had the Strategic National Reserves almost full and then Biden came along and took it to keep prices down. It’s called artificially down, and the thing is almost empty now, and that’s meant for times of war. It’s not meant to keep a price down for an automobile. It’s meant for war, for real problems, and we had it…. 75. Think of it, 75 million barrels.

And I bought it for peanuts and Congress—I had to fight Congress and the pricing was so crazy and so good, and we needed a place cause we had so much. So we start showing up. This guy comes along and he takes it for automobiles, for people…. So they before the election. So the price could keep down. Now it’s totally empty. It’s it’s the emptiest I think it’s been in 50 years and it’s so sad.

He then went on to remind us of the low gas prices the nation enjoyed before Biden took over. “We had it down to a $1.87,” Trump said. “We actually had a little period of time where we had it lower than that.”

God, I miss those days. Going to the gas station now or getting my power bill is about as much fun as sitting for a root canal.

The two discussed other subjects as well, and RedState will bring you more coverage and analysis of this event in the days ahead. Watch the full Town Hall here:
