DA Krasner Calls It 'Racist Messaging' to Question Philly's Soaring Crime Rates

In a by-now-familiar yet still despicable move, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner blames his city’s exploding violent crime rates not on criminals, not on his lax policies, no; he blames you for being “racist” to point it out. It should not be racist, however, to notice that since the beginning of the year things in the city of Brotherly Love have been anything but:

  • Overall shootings have increased by 3%, according to city stats.
  • Overall violent crime is up 7% from the same time last year.
  • Robberies in which perpetrators used guns are up 60%
  • Property crimes are up more than 30%, with businesses getting hit hard as commercial burglaries have risen a staggering 50%.

Krasner is part of a rogues’ gallery of woke (read: extreme Leftist) prosecutors whose soft-on-crime policies in the wake of the George Floyd movement have led to dangerous spikes in violence in cities across the nation. The list includes Chicago’s infamous friend of Jussie Smollett, Kim Foxx, CA’s George Gascón, New York’s Alvin Bragg, St. Louis’ Kim Gardner, and so many more. Their results are obvious, and a recent POLITICO/Morning Consult poll found that over three-quarters of voters said violent crime is now a major problem in the United States.

Pennsylvania House Republicans are leading an impeachment committee to oust Krasner, and on Friday the DA fought back from the steps of the state Capitol in Harrisburg. It’s not about crime, it’s about racism, he cried:

Here’s his “explanation”:

What we see here is the same old playbook, which is about coded and racist messaging,” Krasner declared. “It’s about blaming the biggest city in Pennsylvania with the most diverse population for having the same national struggle that we have with gun violence everywhere, and even having increases that are less than the committee’s counties.” [Emphasis mine.]

Oh, it’s the “racist messaging,” not the fact that you’re likely to be randomly hit over the head in major cities today. And it would be racist to point out that this is what happens when you release convicted murderers:

Krasner continued with his race-baiting:

“Republicans said, ‘Oh no, Oh no, no, we’re just looking at Philly, right now.’ In a super-heated election cycle where part of the Republican playbook as you well know is to point a finger at large diverse cities, and say large diverse cities are lawless. Does that remind you of anything? You ever heard that before?” Krasner continued.

Krasner then likened Republican criticisms of his city’s lawlessness to “the Southern strategy,” a Republican effort to leverage segregation in the Southern United States to win votes among white people.

This kind of talk has become the norm among Democrats today and has led not to a happier America but instead to worse relations among races, with people routinely throwing around the ugly moniker “racist” at anyone who has a different opinion or who dares to suggest that crime is bad.

Krasner was at the Capitol to testify behind closed doors before the Republican-led committee but balked when they declined to allow him to make a private recording of the session. Instead, he submitted a written statement before his speech. He concluded:

“This is an effort to impeach someone for political purposes who has done nothing corrupt and nothing illegal because they want to erase Philadelphia’s votes,” he said. “They want to impeach our ideas.

Actually, yes—you hit the nail on the head, Larry. We want to impeach the ideas of Krasner, Gascón, Foxx, et al. because they simply don’t work and have led to truly awful, often-deadly results. Trying to deflect from your failures with ad hominem attacks on those who call you out is contemptible. If you ask the victims and others who have to live in the jurisdictions being mismanaged by Soros’ DAs, they’d agree.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
