More Pain for Progressive DAs: Veteran Chicago Prosecutor Destroys State’s Attorney Kim Foxx in Resignation Letter

Veteran prosecutor Jim Murphy resigned from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office Friday, blasting his boss Kim Foxx in an office-wide letter on the way out:

I cannot continue to work for an Administration I no longer respect.

I would love to continue to fight for the victims of crime and to continue to stand with each of you, especially in the face of the overwhelming crime that is crippling our communities.

I wish I could stay. However, I can no longer work for this Administration. I have zero confidence in leadership.

Wow, how do you really feel, Jim?

State’s Attorney Foxx, you may remember, was the prosecutor during the infamous Jessie Smollett hoax. We’ll circle back to that in a minute, but Murphy, an Assistant State’s Attorney and a 25-year veteran prosecutor, described an understaffed office that was “more concerned with political narratives and agendas than with victims and prosecuting violent crime.” (A state’s attorney functions much the same as a district attorney; it’s just how some states define the title. In this case, Foxx is the head prosecutor for Cook County, which includes the city of Chicago.)

Here’s Murphy’s letter in full:

Per the Chicago Sun-Times:

Murphy, who could not be reached directly for comment, zeroed in on many of the issues that have made Foxx a target of opponents who argue she’s gone easy on some accused of violent crimes, as carjackings and gun violence have risen in the Chicago area.

Murphy detailed many of his concerns in the letter, but his overall takeaway says it all:

Fairness. Accountability. Integrity. Respect. Collaboration. Those words should mean something. … Yet time after time after time, this Administration has shown that they don’t live the meaning of those words. Or they don’t care.

This isn’t the first time Foxx has been in the news for questionable decisions. Actor-in-more-ways-than-one Smollett—or as Tucker Carlson likes to call him, “Juicy Smollée”—claimed in 2019 that he was attacked by two white men wearing red MAGA hats in sub-zero weather at 2:00 A.M. in Chicago. Uh-huh. Got it.

The story was suspect from the moment it was reported, but a gullible media quickly jumped aboard, as did many politicians and celebrities. RedState had detailed coverage of events as they unfolded, but suffice it to say that the drama had many more twists and turns than Jussie’s since-cancelled TV show Empire. The short version of the saga is that it turns out that Foxx had ties to the Smollet family, and that even after he was found to have been lying about the entire affair, she dropped the charges against him and let him loose.  After public outcry, Special Prosecutor Dan Webb was brought in to investigate, and he found “substantial abuses of discretion and operational failures” in Foxx’ decisions. Code for: massive conflicts of interest and corruption.

The whole episode was an absolute embarrassment for Foxx, the city of Chicago, the media, and of course Smollett himself, yet somehow Foxx managed to survive in her position.

We at RedState have been highly critical of “progressive” prosecutors, and for good reason. Progress to me implies that things improve, but the opposite has happened under the watches of woke district attorneys like LA’s George Gascon (facing a potential recall), former SF DA Chesa Boudin (recalled), Manhattan’s Alvin Bragg, and yes, Cook County’s Kim Foxx. We criticize them because they are destroying our cities by letting criminals go free, ignoring victims of crime, and continually putting their political agendas above actual justice. Each one of those mentioned is bankrolled by billionaire George Soros, whose mission, it seems, is to destroy our country.

Good on you, Jim Muphy, for being yet another voice shouting out that these charlatans must be removed from office before more death and tragedy can be attributed to their reigns.
