Donald Trump won his 40th club championship this weekend and, predictably, had some words for the larger field.
Trump announced Sunday that he shot a 2-under 70 in the senior division of the Bedminster Club Championship at Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey. Then he posted the winning shot on Truth Social, complete with a full presidential sign-off.
Trump thanked the other golfers for participating before explaining what separated him from the rest of the field:
"The Winning Shot in the Bedminster Club Championship! Thank you very much to all of those who participated. I won with a score of 70, and am so honored in that, unlike the rest of the field, I'm given very little time to practice, because I'm focused on many other things. It's called TALENT, and I have it, and they don't! President DONALD J. TRUMP"
Imagine losing a club championship to the 80-year-old president, then opening the president's own social media platform, Truth Social, and learning that, in his view, you simply do not have the talent to win. That is going to make for a long winter at Bedminster.
The shot, seen around social media, gave Trump some evidence for the boast. From an estimated 40 to 50 yards out, his pitch cleared a bunker, hit the green and checked up within a few feet of the cup. That's not a lucky bounce. That's a real golf shot, the kind that requires feel, touch, and yes, a little talent.

Trump's 70 came on Bedminster's par-72 championship layout. The Tom Fazio-designed course has hosted the U.S. Women's Open and LIV Golf events. It has deep bunkers, water on multiple holes, and tight approaches that punish anything less than solid ball-striking. The average club golfer doesn't break 90 there on their best day. A 2-under round isn't something you explain away, not at any age, and especially not at 80.
Trump also claimed the super senior net category, giving him two trophies from Saturday's tournament.
Trump has been, unsurprisingly, keeping count of these wins. During a call with members of the military last year, he said he had 38 championships despite barely having time to practice:
"I've won 38 golf championships and I don't get to practice very much. I beat a 27-year-old kid."
The 70 was not even Trump's sharpest reported round at Bedminster. In 2023, he claimed a 5-under 67 on the same course.

Most golfers would have settled for a trophy photo. Trump posted the shot, thanked the competitors, and told every one of them why they lost.
Championship No. 40 is in the books, and the rest of Bedminster's field has a year to locate some TALENT. Good luck with that.
