The phrase "leading from behind" was a phrase used by an Obama administration White House official to describe Barack's policy on Libya. But it is an overall phrase that can describe liberal politicians in general. They never want to get their hands too dirty, and they never want to be accused of any sort of "ism." That, to them, is more important than doing what is right for the people they serve. In the wake of the horrific Hanukkah massacre on Australia's Bondi Beach, sadly, that is exactly what the families of victims are now faced with.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has suggested that a Royal Commission into the Bondi Beach terror attack would not be in the national interest, arguing his departmental review would be more effective.https://t.co/UH0XisWLGK

On Monday, seventeen victims' families sent an open letter to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. In it, they encouraged Albanese to:
“...immediately establish a Commonwealth Royal Commission into the rapid rise of antisemitism in Australia” and examine “law enforcement, intelligence, and policy failures that led to the Bondi Beach massacre. We demand answers and solutions. We need to know why clear warning signs were ignored, how antisemitic hatred and Islamic extremism were allowed to dangerously grow unchecked, and what changes must be made to protect all Australians going forward.”
But incredibly, Albanese has refused any requests for a federal inquiry from a royal commission. He cites a need for "urgent action," and suggested that the families would "wait years for answers" from such an inquiry. However, an Australian Royal Commission would have more power to gather evidence and other information than would a judge in a court case. A commission could also compel witnesses to testify under oath either publicly or in private.
Albanese stated that “We need to get on with any changes that are required.” He also denied that antisemitism was a growing threat throughout Australia. But the "changes" Albanese is talking about are typical liberal answers to shootings like the one at Bondi Beach — more gun laws that don't affect criminals, and more "hate speech" rules. There will also be a review of police and intelligence services.
But Albanese may have another typical liberal reason for not wanting a federal inquiry into the massacre. Is he afraid of being called an Islamophobe, like most feckless leftists? After the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, Australia announced it would grant temporary refuge to Palestinians fleeing Gaza. Over six weeks, 860 were granted. The problem: often, visas were approved in as little as 24 hours. Did the Australian government have any idea who they were letting into the country?
The government has given thousands of visas to Palestinians since October 7, 2023, some approved within just an hour, as revealed by @SharriMarkson.

As might be expected, the victims' families called Albanese's and the government response not nearly enough." Their letter went on to say:
We have lost parents, spouses, children, and grandparents. Our loved ones were celebrating Chanukah at Bondi Beach, a festival of light and joy, in an iconic public space that should have been safe. You owe us answers. You owe us accountability. And you owe Australians the truth. We need strong action now. We need leadership now. You cannot bring back our loved ones. But with a well-led Commonwealth Royal Commission and strong action, you may be able to save many more.
They described the increase in antisemitism as a "national crisis" and said that the "threat was not going away."

Unfortunately for the families of the victims of Bondi Beach and the larger Australian Jewish community, it is far more important to liberal politicians like Prime Minister Albanese that they are not called racists or Islamophobes than it is to do what's right for the people of his nation, like doing whatever is necessary to crack down on rampant antisemitism.
Australians are now being introduced to another Obama quote: "elections have consequences."
Anthony Albanese didn’t listen to the concerns of the community prior to Islamists slaughtering 15 Australians,

So,
Why are we surprised he’s not listening to the community about having a royal commission?
