Homan Puts Sanctuary Cities on Notice, Slams the Media Over Immigration Enforcement Coverage

As Democrats and their propaganda arm, the media, continue to defend and cover for criminal illegal immigrants, their dangerous rhetoric is causing a frightening increase in the number of attacks on Border Patrol and Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) officers. The latest incident involved a Border Patrol agent and a friend on Saturday night in New York City. The off-duty agent and his friend were sitting on a rock in Washington Park when two individuals on a moped approached them around midnight on Saturday in an attempt to rob the agent and his friend. The agent was shot in the face, but managed to fire back at his attackers, shooting and wounding one of them.

As my colleague Mike Miller reports, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem held a press conference on Tuesday where she gave an update on the case and the condition of the agent. Noem stated that both attackers had been apprehended, and surprise, both were in the country illegally, and had been apprehended and released in the sanctuary city of New York several times.

Noem then turned the mike over to Border Czar Tom Homan. If sanctuary city mayors like Eric Adams and Boston's Michelle Wu thought Homan was a thorn in their sides before Saturday, that thorn is going to get a whole lot bigger for them. In his no-nonsense way, Homan announced that sanctuary cities were now a priority. Homan stated:

I'll say it again. Sanctuary cities are sanctuaries for criminals. I will work very hard with Secretary Noem to keep President Trump's promise and his commitment several weeks ago that sanctuary cities are now our PRIORITY. We're gonna FLOOD THE ZONE.

Homan was very clear about how ICE agents plan on apprehending the bad guys. He stated that if criminal illegal immigrants are not apprehended in the safety of a county jail, but are released due to the policies of sanctuary city mayors, then they will be arrested on the streets of those cities, making it dangerous for both the criminal illegal immigrant and the public. And as an added bonus, if they are with anyone else who is in the country illegally, they will also be arrested, regardless of whether they have a criminal record. Congratulations, sanctuary city mayors. You get exactly what you don't want: more ICE agents on your streets.

But Tom Homan wasn't done yet. He then turned his attention to the media, which has done its best to undermine and lie about ICE operations, thus participating in putting agents at risk. He brought up a story that claimed that the majority of illegal immigrants being detained are not criminals. He stated, "The numbers I looked at today: 130,000 arrests and 90,000 criminals. Do the math, that's 70 percent." The others include those who have received due process and already have removal orders, and others are national security risks, including "several hundred Iranian nationals."

But maybe what best describes the absurdity of the media, if it weren't so dangerous, is a story Homan also brought up, claiming that most people in detention were not criminals. It went on to claim that only one percent of illegal immigrants are murderers. Homan's incredulous response, "Are you kidding me? Being in the country illegally is not illegal anymore? You have to commit a murder to be deported?" He then issued a "challenge" to the media, saying,

Let's try telling the truth about the men and women of ICE and the men and women of the border patrol...these are the finest men and women of this country.

But we all know they will ignore that challenge. Tom Homan is clearly done with sanctuary cities and those who encourage violence against Border Patrol and ICE agents. In perhaps a reference to the ridiculous and dangerous media coverage, Homan stated, "I've buried Border Patrol agents and ICE agents. Luckily, thank God, we're not burying one today. Enough."
