You Knew It Was Going to Happen: Gov't Agencies Ignore Trump EO and Try to Sneak in DEI Under the Radar

Since his return to the White House, President Donald Trump has been delivering on his campaign promises to the American people at a breakneck pace. On Monday, Inauguration Day, he signed 26 executive orders, the most by a commander-in-chief on his first day in office 1937. With the stroke of a pen, the last four years and Joe Biden's abysmal presidency were virtually erased, becoming just a bad memory. But we know what the left does when they don't get their way, and entrenched government bureaucrats who were all in on the Biden agenda are not going quietly.

The message says the agency knows government employees are trying to disguise DEI by using new names and vague language. (This is documented.) It tells staff to report those violations for investigation.

One of the first executive orders signed by President Trump was the elimination of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs that had permeated the federal government under the Biden administration. However, two federal agencies have apparently decided to ignore Trump's order to get rid of their DEI programs and attempt to continue them under the rug. Trump signed the executive order regarding DEI on Tuesday, but it took just days for the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Bureau (ATF) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to try a little sleight of hand by merely changing the names of those programs and some key personnel positions, and also appearing to retain other employees and policy.

The White House issued a statement on the executive order Wednesday that read in part:

"Individual dignity, hard work, and excellence are fundamental to American greatness. This Executive Order reaffirms these values by ending the Biden-Harris Administration’s anti-constitutional and deeply demeaning “equity” mandates, terminating DEI, and protecting civil rights."

The ATF, however, had other ideas. They changed the official title of Chief Diversity Officer Lisa Boykin to "Senior Executive" on Thursday. CBP was a bit more covert. Sometime between January 21, the day the DEI executive order was signed, and early on January 23, the "Diversity and Inclusion" webpage was mysteriously changed to "Special Emphasis Programs." Even more curious is the fact that CBP has now taken the entire webpage down.

Trump's executive order negates the one Joe Biden issued in 2021, calling for every government agency to conduct an "equity assessment." In June of that year came another executive order declaring that America was "systemically racist" and requiring all employees at those agencies to undergo DEI training and to enforce DEI in hiring and promotions.

Despite a recent YouGov poll that showed that Americans appeared to be divided on DEI, real life seems to be telling a different story. As 2024 came to a close, a long list of companies and corporations emerged that opted to scale back their DEI programs due to pressure from various groups. It is a response to the fact that Americans are getting sick and tired of being judged by who they are and what they look like and want to be judged on their merit and, dare it be said, "the content of their character."

Ending DEI wasn't the number one reason Donald Trump was elected, but a Fox News poll showed that it was the sixth-highest priority after things like the economy and immigration, and it was the first priority for 29 percent of voters. One of the big reasons Trump was elected was to clean house within the federal government. Left-wing ideologues who can't seem to follow directions might be a good place to start.
