Usually, the antics of Gen-Zers make us roll our eyes and that famous quote from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" comes to mind, "I weep for the future." But now and then, we get a glimpse of the fact that maybe not all is lost and that the generation that will be taking care of us when we are old may not be doomed. 

I give you, C.J. Pearson. If his name and face look and sound familiar, it is because he has been a social media fixture for quite a while, since the Obama administration to be exact. But now, he is all grown up and is running for office as a Republican in his home state of Georgia.

Pearson announced this week that he will be running in a special election to fill the vacated seat of Rep. Barry Fleming, a Republican who is leaving his seat to accept a judgeship. But even at the tender age of 21, C.J. Pearson is no political newbie. While at the ripe old age of 12, while his friends were busy playing video games, Pearson emerged to take on the Obama administration, and he did not hold back. As a young black teen, he was in a perfect position to speak to others his age about politics and articulate enough to perhaps bring minority voters out of the fog of being enamored with Obama as the first black President, and back down to the reality about the Democrat party and their relationship with black voters. Republicans in Georgia saw him as a perfect fit to appeal to young minority voters.

C.J. Pearson cut his political teeth very early, being involved with various conservative groups, including being a commentator for "PragerU." He attended the University of Alabama but left just three semesters short of graduation. In an interview with Fox News, he stated that, while there, he was "force-fed indoctrination."

Now, he is back home in Georgia to run in the State Rep. race, where if elected, his district will include the suburbs of Augusta. There are five candidates including Pearson, four Republicans, and one Democrat vying for the seat. But that doesn't seem to scare off C.J. Pearson one bit. He said, 

“The people of my district don’t want to elect just another Republican to this seat; they want to elect a conservative who knows how to fight like the future of our country is on the line. Because it is — make no qualms about it."

C.J. Pearson is a Trump supporter and in the era of Trump, support among black voters for the Democrat party has been waning. Currently, several national and swing state polls have black voters supporting Donald Trump from anywhere between 14 to 30 percent, a virtual death knell for Democrats. Many black voters feel as if Democrats have reneged on promises to the black community and taken their decades of loyal votes for granted. 

Another crucial demographic waning for Democrats is young people. A recent New York Times/Siena College poll showed that among voters under 30, Biden was leading Trump, but not by much at 30 to 29 percent. The winner in that age group, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is running as an independent, at 34 percent. An Emerson College poll showed Trump ahead of Biden with that same group, 45 to 43 percent. When it comes to younger voters, it is issues like abortion, gun control, climate change, and LGBTQ rights that tend to motivate their votes. 

Most of C.J. Pearson's opponents for the Georgia State Rep. race are older with perhaps more political experience. But the one advantage he may have over those opponents, at age 21; he hasn't had time to have much of a past or dirt for any of those opponents to dig up on him. Whether Pearson wins this time around or not, he is a young man with a bright future in politics, and he is the breath of fresh air the Republican party can certainly use. We have not seen the last of him.
