Antisemitism Coming to a Public School Near You As Oakland CA Schools Hold Anti-Israel 'Teach-in'

The level of out-in-the-open antisemitism that has been seen worldwide since the October 7 attack on Israel by the terror group Hamas is terrifying and like nothing that has been seen since 1930s Germany. The antisemitism on America's college campuses since the attack has been well documented, and this week, the presidents of several Ivy League schools were brought before Congress to testify about it. In truly evil fashion, these heads of elite universities could not bring themselves to characterize calls for genocide as hate speech and had little to no explanation of how they were dealing with rampant antisemitism on their campuses.

But just when you thought the indoctrination of America's students couldn't get much worse, in Oakland, California, teachers have issued a "hold our beer" challenge. The Oakland Education Association (OEA) is the union that represents teachers in the Oakland Unified School District. On Wednesday, the union held a pro-Palestinian (pro-Hamas) "teach-in" for children...wait for it...from the ages of four to 18 (pre-K through high school). As you might expect, the curriculum is a Jew-hating salad of revisionist history. A slide from one of the presentations discusses "attacks on Gaza," which also discusses the current conflict but conveniently leaves out the part that the current conflict began with the horrific attack on Israel by Hamas.

In true communist-style "get-'em-while-they're-young" fashion, part of the teach-in curriculum is designed for kids as young as four. Because children that age love to color, a coloring book has been developed that tells kids, “A group of bullies called Zionists wanted our land so they stole it by force and hurt many people.” That "bully" theme is seen throughout the teaching materials using phrases like "settler colonialism" and "apartheid state." Other materials for younger children include a lovely book entitled "P is for Palestine." The book encourages children to learn about "intifada."

Of course, the revisionist history of the teach-in curriculum not only leaves out the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas but completely glosses over the Holocaust. It is not even mentioned by name and is replaced with this gem:

"During World War II, many Jewish people were killed and mistreated. The world wanted to make sure that never happened again. Unfortunately, the Zionists used it to justify displacing and killing Palestinians.

Zionism is defined in the curriculum as "a political goal of creating a country only for Jewish people." It also goes on to blame Israel for what it calls "massacres" and explains that "Zionists" are "colonizing oppressors." It also cites what is labeled as "75+ years of Palestinian land theft." The revision continues with no mention of terrorism on the part of Palestinians, several peace proposals that Palestinians have rejected, and the ties between Palestinian Arabs and Nazi Germany.

While the Oakland Education Association is arguing freedom of speech for its members, the dirty little secret is that, thankfully, not all teachers are on board with the teach-in. A YouTube video was put out by a teacher who supports the teach-in that features several other teachers. In the video, one of the teachers states that they are free to teach what they want because they are backed by the union. However, other teachers say that the teach-in is not officially sanctioned by the union and that it is being backed by a sub-group within the union called "OEA for Palestine."

Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Kayla Johnson-Trammell issued a statement saying, “Our schools are sanctuaries for learning, and I am deeply disappointed by the harmful and divisive materials being circulated and promoted as factual.” Josh Diamant, a Jewish teacher in the district, said of the curriculum, "These materials misrepresent history. It misrepresents what Zionism even is. It reduces this incredibly complex conflict to simplistic slogans." He added that most of his colleagues said they would not participate, saying they did not believe the issues discussed in the teach-in were age-appropriate for third-graders.

Since the Holocaust, the sentiment of most of the world has been "Never Again." But Never Again may already be here.
