"Iron" Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight boxing champ, was for many years the butt of nonstop lame jokes in the wake of his fight with Evander Holyfield in 1997, in which he bit off part of the opponent's right ear- and took a lunge at the left one for good measure - for which he was disqualified early in the title bout.

Then things began to descend in a steep decline, with the only job offers coming as part of short-lived reality shows, if he managed to scrap up anything at all. But today's Mike Tyson has entered the national conversation about inspiring Americans of all walks of life to improve their health, and some of that comes through a dose of tough love and education.
Readers might be aware that Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. introduced the new Food Pyramid recently, which was just one facet of the Trump 47 team practically turning long-status quo guidelines on their ear, as my colleague Jennifer Oliver O'Connell wrote.

RedState's Teri Christoph also chimed in with an exclusive column for VIP members about the very real impact of the old pyramid on GenXers.

And in what may be something of an odd couple pairing, Tyson and Kennedy have been friends since at least 2020, when they took part in a panel during a podcast that year. Now, they're teaming up, as this brand-new clip - in support of RFK Jr.'s initiative to inspire Americans to eat real food, instead of processed junk - shows. And be warned: the video is surprising and truly poignant.
Watch:
The most important fight of my life isn’t in the ring.
— Mike Tyson (@MikeTyson) February 6, 2026
I’m not fighting for a belt. I’m fighting for our health.
Processed foods are killing us. We have been lied to and we need to eat real food again. pic.twitter.com/vnxHoCqHTJ
"My sister's name wss Denise. She died of obesity in '25," Tyson begins."She had a heart attack." To throw in a personal note here, that's how my own dad died, well before his time, at age 66 (and I reckon, many people's loved ones have died from obesity-related causes/heart attacks who are reading this).
"I was so fat and nasty, I would eat anything," the boxer continues."I was like 345 pounds. I would eat a quart of ice cream every hour. I had so much self-hate when I was like that, I just wanted to kill myself."
Then he goes big picture about America's health woes.
"We're the most powerful country in the world, and we have the most obese, fudgy people," he says. "Something has to be done about processed food in this country,"
At the end, the text on the screen directs viewers of the video to realfood.gov, which highlights the updated MAHA (Make America Healthy Again) health guidance/New Pyramid from HHS.
The clip by the former champ earned high praise from California conservative, Chef Andrew Gruel:

Bobby Kennedy Jr. also talked about his Eat Real Food initiative at an event with TX cattlemen this week.

Here are a few other relevant stories that may have fallen through the cracks this week along these same lines of Americans' health making a comeback:
Casey DeSantis, the first lady of FL, spoke at an event about a study on unhealthy additives in bagged bread products.

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) also just approved some new, naturally-derived food dyes, to replace the banned chemical ones, which Commissioner, Dr. Makary talked about in an interview on CNN:
.@DrMakaryFDA: "The FDA has taken a lot of action in the last ten months to approve six natural dyes from natural ingredients... now, people can trust that 'No Artificial Dyes' label, just like they can trust the FDA brand." pic.twitter.com/mZYZNIw83d

As a bonus resource, Drs. Andrew Huberman and Mark Hyman discussed the latest scientific thinking on why eating sugary and ultraprocessed junk food products just make us biologically crave more of it, on the Dr. Hyman Show podcast in December 2025.
Now, is what the DHS and Tyson are recommending a perfect solution? No, since everyone is different, and has unique medical and health needs. We all should consult our medical providers. But it's positive to see things moving in the right direction, when it comes to Americans getting healthier!
Stay tuned.
