WBZ:

Three people were shot and killed in Winthrop, including a suspected gunman who allegedly stole a truck and crashed it into a building before shooting two people Saturday afternoon, according to Massachusetts State Police.

At around 2:45 p.m., officers responded to a report of a large truck crashing into a building at the intersection of Shirley and Cross Street.

The tragic shooting took place in the Greater Boston area, in the town of Winthrop, which Wikipedia describes as “an ocean-side suburban community….situated at the north entrance to Boston Harbor, close to Logan International Airport.”

WBZ’s report continued:

“Preliminary investigation suggests a male suspect stole a truck owned by a plumbing and drain company and then crashed into a building on Veterans Road in Winthrop,” Dave Procopio, Director of Media Communications for Massachusetts State Police.

Police say that after the crash, the male suspect, who was armed, escaped the truck by foot. Officials say they believe he shot a man and a woman near the scene, who are now pronounced dead.

Staff reports from NBC News Boston:

There is no active danger to the public but people were asked to keep away from the area where it took place — the scene remains active, according to the Winthrop Police Department.

The NBC report also noted that the original report was that this was a “mass casualty incident.” Luckily, that didn’t end up being the case.

It’s unknown if there’s a connection with the shooting, but as WBZ reported, “[p]hotos from the scene also show another car had crashed nearby.”

As this is breaking news, RedState will provide further details as they become available.
