Opinion: The Left Has Delusions of Grandeur Over Kamala's Odds in Veep Debate

It’s a curious thing, the reality that our friends on the Left choose to live in. If you happened to listen in to their takeaways from the first of three, 2020 presidential debates between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday night, you might be convinced that Joe Biden won the debate going away, the president was so obnoxious to Sleepy Joe and moderator Chris Wallace that it might be in the country’s best interest to cancel the other debates, and Donald Trump is directing a full orchestra of racist dog whistles for a citizen militia group most Americans have never heard of.

Maybe it was kind of like an adrenaline rush or some other, pharmaceutical high, the jubilant mood that leftists and their media allies found themselves in in the minutes following the debate. And with the unalloyed confidence of madmen and snake oil salesmen, it sort of follows that they would already start talking up how their presidential vice presidential nominee, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), will do in the debate next Wednesday. Take a gander at this malarkey I found on the Twitters:

And the comments weren’t much more lucid: Kamala’s going to make Mike Pence, the Vice President of the United States…cry?

Does the Left live inside the plot of “Memento” or something? The Democrat primaries were only a few months ago — albeit, Harris’ time in the debates was cut short when she dropped out of the race in late 2019. And the way she went from the top of the heap at the end of June to hanging on by her fingernails by mid-November was spectacular — and memorable. And lucky for us, the Internet doesn’t forget.

To help refresh our leftist buddies’ recollections, here are a few high (low) -lights from the person they’re so revved up about:

Kamala Harris gets wrecked by Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (HI) in a late July ’19 debate:

Then between that debate and the next one, Kamala Harris tries to strike back at Gabbard in the most underhanded way someone can in politics: through a surrogate. You may remember Hillary Clinton casually hinting in an October interview that Gabbard might be a Russian intelligence asset. Well, my colleague Sister Toldjah reported that a campaign surrogate for Kamala appears to be the first one to make the allegation. That’s low.

Of course, Tulsi Gabbard wasn’t done using Kamala as a verbal punching bag, as we saw in November. Kamala’s campaign was hanging onto the ropes by this point, so it didn’t take much, when the candidate tried to imply that Gabbard had used her time as a Fox News contributor to run down former President Barack Obama, as Bonchie shared via Townhall.com, it didn’t go well…for Harris.

Here was Harris’ gambit:

“I think that it’s unfortunate that we have someone on this stage that is attempting to be the Democratic nominee for president of the United States, who during the Obama Administration spent four years full time on Fox News criticizing President Obama,” Harris said. “Who has been full time criticizing people on this stage as affiliated with the Democratic Party. When Donald Trump was elected, not even sworn in, buddied up to Steve Bannon to get a meeting with Donald Trump in the Trump Tower.”

And here’s Gabbard’s devastating response:

“What Senator Harris is doing is unfortunately continuing to traffic in lies and smears and innuendos because she cannot challenge the substance of the argument that I’m making, the leadership and the change that I’m seeking to bring in our foreign policy, which only makes me guess that she will, as president, continue the status quo, continue the Bush-Clinton-Trump foreign policy of regime change wars, which is deeply destructive.”

Then by the first week of December, as S.T. reported to RedState readers, Kamala’s campaign was pronounced D.O.A. by the New York Times. You can’t continue after something like that.

So, when you hear the volume rise over the next week on this kind of bravado about the Veep debate and how Kamala’s going to wipe the floor with Pence and make him cry… remember the time, as the late King of Pop used to sing. And remember how thoroughly the California politician standing next to Sleepy Joe Biden was demolished by a representative from Hawaii.

Aloha!
