In an exclusive interview with the Daily Caller published late Wednesday night, members of President Trump’s Housing and Urban Development (HUD) department, including secretary Ben Carson, laid out the administration’s plans to end “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH),” a rule tacked onto the Fair Housing Act (FHA) during former Pres. Obama’s tenure — and prevent a potential Biden administration from building on the crushing regulations it contains.

The program, which the Caller wrote required “producing and maintaining assessments of fair housing practices,” essentially “saddled HUD’s payroll with an estimated 64 additional employees, whose salaries cost American taxpayers up to $15 million a year.”

Sec. Carson told the publication, in part:

“In nearly every case, it is a fact that local governments are more adequately equipped to deal with their community’s unique needs than any unelected bureaucrat in Washington.

President Trump made a promise to preserve America’s neighborhoods, I am pleased to report that promise has been kept.”

The Caller added that Sec. Carson hasn’t been shy about bulldozing his way through the mounds of unresolved Fair Housing cases left by the previous administration:

Carson has also cleared a significant backlog of Fair Housing complaints rolled over from the previous administration. Data provided to Daily Caller indicate that under Carson’s leadership, HUD has investigated and resolved 22,933 Fair Housing cases since January 2017.

In a piece titled, “Battle Of Suburbia Commences: Trump Orders End To Obama-Era AFFH,” my Townhall Media colleague Ed Morrissey wrote about what might happen if the Obama-Biden’s AFFH rule is expanded by Biden; it could “abolish the suburbs.” [Hot Air VIP subscription required]

He wrote, in part:

Three weeks ago, Stanley Kurtz warned that Democrats would strip suburban voters of control of their communities if Joe Biden wins in November. Kurtz urged Donald Trump to make the 2015 Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) rule a key issue in the upcoming campaign, which if implemented according to Biden’s new plan would effectively “abolish the suburbs.” Highlighting this as an issue would force Democrats to either retreat from this attempt to put suburbs under urban control or lose the suburban voters that gave them their House majority.

Morrissey added that it was Kurtz who broke the story on the HUD change in a Thursday afternoon, National Review piece. You can hear from Mr. Kurtz himself, when he appears as a guest on Fox News’ “Life, Liberty, and Levin,” with Mark Levin this Sunday.

The Trump Administration’s move comes on the heels of a video going viral, which shows a young girl carrying a Black Lives Matter protest sign — with a profane message scrawled across it.

It made me so angry, I couldn’t help commenting on it — and I wasn’t alone:

All those kids will grow up fearing and hating the police, fearing and hating white people, while the thugs rule their neighborhoods. It’s sad and infuriating.

Sec. Carson also recently spoke with Fox News’ Martha McCallum about the best way to “help” anyone living in poverty or other hard circumstances… something he’s intimately familiar with, since that’s exactly how he grew up.

He said, in part:

“There was a congressperson last week who said that a lot of this violent behavior [rioting] is induced by the fact that people are poor, people are hungry.

Give me a break. I grew up around a lot of poor and hungry people, and they weren’t like that. So, we have to stop making excuses, take some personal responsibility. And we need to work with these young people. …

I certainly don’t have a problem with us helping people who are poor, people who find themselves in difficult circumstances. I don’t know if it needs to be based on race.

It needs to be based on circumstances.”

That’s certainly a message that seems to resonate with the American people.

With just about 100 days until the presidential election, I think it’s worthwhile to remind people that a Biden-Veep TBD win in November means the potential (in some cases, definite) return of many mandates “Organizer in Chief” Barack Obama put in place during his eight years in the White House. Scary thought.
