Hollywood megastar Angelina Jolie was asked in a BBC interview if she might run for president someday, and her answer was pretty interesting.
Will Angelina Jolie run for president one day? She says she can "get a lot done without a title" so "will stay quiet for now" #r4today https://t.co/DlzOiPfUp9 pic.twitter.com/FwLEYDBgHZ

Honestly, if you asked me that 20 years ago, I would have laughed. I really don’t know. I always say I’ll go where I’m needed…I honestly will do whatever I think will really make a change and, right now, I am able to work with a UN agency that is the most in-the-field of all the UN agencies to do a lot of work directly with the people in need. I’m also able to work with a lot of governments and I’m also able to work with militaries, and so I sit in a very interesting place of being able to get a lot done without a title and without it being about myself or my policies so, for now, I’ll stay quiet.
Towards the end, the host assumes she is a Democrat, saying he’ll add to her the list of those running. She just laughs and says “thank you.” While he might assume she’s just another Hollywood liberal, he might want to look a little deeper.
We know that her dad, actor John Voight, is one of Hollywood’s most “out” Republicans, but that doesn’t necessarily mean his values were passed down to his daughter. She has kept her politics fairly quiet, trying to keep her focus on the work instead of her policies, as she said (that doesn’t sound like a politician, does it?). We have a few clues, though.
She seems to be more of a Libertarian than anything else. Jolie has spoken against some of Donald Trump’s policies, specifically those which impact refugees. Said to be an Ayn Rand fan, at one point, she was set to play Dagny Taggart in the film adaptation of Atlas Shrugged. She told MTV News “[‘Atlas Shrugged’] is one of those, I think, once-in-a-lifetime films that you feel, ‘If I only do a few more in my lifetime, that has to be one of them.” Jolie likes guns so much that Brad Pitt gave her a firing range costing nearly $400,000 as a wedding gift and she has a gun made by famous customizer Jesse James reading “mama knows best.”
Jolie seems to be someone interested in keeping an open mind to get things done rather than just to play politics. I’m sure there are things we wouldn’t agree on, but I’d be willing to bet there’s plenty on which we would. Maybe the BBC should do a little research before making assumptions about their Hollywood guests.
