I Guess We Have to Ban Idioms Involving Meat Now

There’s more than one way to skin a cat but, for many of us, we’re putting all of our eggs in one basket, so to speak.  Hamzah, a researcher at Swansea University says we’ll stop flogging this dead horse any time now as veganism takes over and we stop using animal-based idioms. For real.

I guess getting outraged about weird stuff like this is one way to bring home the bacon. She suggests swapping out these idioms for those which don’t involve meat at all or, for those which involve animals generally, make them friendly.

She told The Evening Standard:

The image of “killing two birds with one stone” is, if anything, made more powerful by the animal friendly alternative of “feeding two birds with one scone.

If you say so. PETA, unsurprisingly, has been beating this (faux skin) drum as well, encouraging swapping “bringing home the bacon” for “bringing home the bagels” and “putting all of your eggs in one basket” with “putting all of your berries in one bowl.”

Idioms are the biggest problem facing the world today, apparently. Or idiocy. It’s definitely one of those.
