Democrat incumbent Debbie Stabenow has won a fourth six-year term to Michigan’s Senate. The 68 year-old career politician defeated Republican John James, a 37 year-old businessman and veteran.

Stabenow framed the election not as herself vs James, but as a referendum on Trump, saying that “who we are” was on the ballot. James gave Stabenow “the fight of her political life.” He spoke out about the way that Democrats seek the black vote while ignoring the needs of black people. Just this week, some overt media bias was accidentally left right on his own voicemail (oops).

Full disclosure: I am a John James fangirl, and I am sad.
