Houston Police Officer Drowns in Floodwater

According to the Houston Police Department, an officer has drowned in his patrol car in the floodwaters of Hurricane Harvey.  The officer, a 30-year veteran of the HPD was in his patrol car Sunday morning when he was trapped in high water at I-45 and the Hardy Toll Road and was unable to exit his vehicle.

“He was trying different routes, and took a wrong turn,” one high-ranking official who asked not to be identified told the Houston Chronicle. The family has not yet been formally notified as search and rescue crews work to recover the officer’s body. According to the Chronicle, the officer’s death is the 15th fatality in Texas due to the storm.
