Smug liberal Samantha Bee, who denies the problematic nature of smug liberals, is married to smug liberal Jason Jones who is behaving in a very problematic way. The Jones kids, you see, attend an upper west side Manhattan public school, which is swanky simply because of its location in an enclave of wealthy families like theirs. PS 452 is 75 percent of the students are white or asian and only nine percent are considered low-income, which is pretty remarkable for an district that is only 43 percent white and 48 percent of families are considered low-income. The school, which opened in 2010 is outgrowing its current building, and the proposed new location would be next to a housing project, which would throw off those percentages. These elite liberals. Even Public Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña, another smug liberal warned against forcing integration “down people’s throats.”
This brings us to Jones, himself a former Daily Show correspondent, who has been speaking out against the move while encouraging fellow parents not to speak to the press. At a public hearing, he said of parents “We are not divided. We are absolutely united in wanting what’s best for our children.” While he told WNYC that there was nothing racist or classist about the uproar, it’s hard to imagine why else he’s fighting this integration effort. It’s even harder to imagine a prominent Republican being believed under the same circumstances.
Whatever his reason, the result is the same: he is fighting to keep poor, black children out of his children’s school. Are we supposed to ignore that?
