In Oregon, they’re trying to figure out racial justice.

Hence, Democrats have introduced a bill that will grant $123,000 to black Oregonians in an effort toward reparations.

The money will be paid out over the course of recipients’ lives.

Among the requirements, as stated by the legislation:

A person is eligible…if the person demonstrates that the person: (a) Is descended from an American slave; (b) Has identified as African-American on legal documents for at least 10 years before the date of the application…

Also, an individual must be at least 18 and have resided in the state for at least two years by December 31, 2022.

SB619 will come around with cash once a year:

The department shall pay to each eligible applicant the amount of $123,000 in the form of an annuity payable annually for the life of the applicant.

Back in January, Yahoo News praised the idea:

America’s racial awakening has brought about a number of positive changes—or at least earnest attempts at bringing change. The spotlight on systemic racism in policing, for example, appears to have lawmakers (mostly Democratic, but still) taking police reform more seriously than ever before. But when it comes to racial injustice and inequality, police brutality is hardly the only issue—structural racism isn’t a single-issue thing—because the fact is Black people’s entire American history is tied to our present state of inequality. That’s why it warms the heart to see lawmakers taking seriously the discussion around reparations.

The state’s on the move where addressing racism’s concerned.

I previously covered the Oregon Department of Education’s fight for mathematical morality:

Per Fox News, the Oregon Department of Education’s recent newsletter hailed a February 21st “Pathway to Math Equity Micro-Course.”

Such will allow middle school teachers to employ a toolkit for “Dismantling Racism in [Math].”

ODE Communications Director Marc Siegel said the program “helps educators learn key tools for engagement, develop strategies to improve equitable outcomes for Black, Latinx, and multilingual students, and join communities of practice.”

The course pinpointed 14 manifestations of white supremacy:

  1. Perfectionism
  2. Sense of Urgency
  3. Defensiveness
  4. Quantity Over Quality
  5. Worship of the Written Word
  6. Only One Right way
  7. Paternalism
  8. Either/Or Thinking
  9. Power Hoarding
  10. Fear of Open Conflict
  11. Individualism
  12. Progress is Bigger More
  13. Objectivity
  14. Right to Comfort

But what if reparations are perfect and urgent?

And exactly how will the dough be distributed?

“The average black man has a lifespan of 75 years,” the The Daily Wire computes, “so if a 30-year-old black man applies for the reparations program he would receive a yearly payment of approximately $2,733 per year from the Oregonian government. If the recipient receives a five percent interest rate on the reparations money, they could receive up to $2,870 per year.”

So what will the taxpayers be billed?

According to a Republican estimate, as much as $11.8 trillion

Some fear the move will cause an influx of formerly-out-of-staters hoping to benefit from a second round, increasing the public cost.

Either way, Yahoo News is crossing its fingers

Hopefully, the subject of reparations will continue to gain momentum. It’s long overdue.

My prediction: Continue it will.
