On Sunday, as reported by RedState’s Shipwreckedcrew, footage emerged online of a black man being shot by at least one officer while getting or reaching into his car amid what some have called resisting arrest.

You surely already know: Violent riots have ensued.

29-year-old Jacob Blake was struck seven times in the back.

According to family attorney Patrick Salvi Jr., at least one round hit his spinal cord while other bullets wounded his liver, kidney, and arm.

Amazingly, he survived, though his family relays he’s currently partially paralyzed.

At an emotional press conference Tuesday, Jacob’s mother made a plea to America:

“[E]xamine your hearts. … I’m not talking to just caucasian people. I am talking to everyone: white, black, Japanese, Chinese, red, brown. No one is superior to the other. The only Supreme Being is God himself. Please, let’s begin to pray for healing for our nation. We are the United States. Have we been united? Do you understand what’s gonna happen when we fall? Because a house that is against each other cannot stand.”

At the briefing, Jacob’s father — Jacob Blake Sr. — had his own message, and one component involved who he’d like to investigate his son’s shooting.

Or, at least, who he doesn’t want to carry out the probe.

At the conference, Mr. Blake spoke out against the incident of officer fire — what he called a “senseless attempted murder.”

“They shot my son seven times, like he didn’t matter.”

As observed by The Daily Wire, Jacob Sr. was asked if he has faith in the police investigation.

His answer was sure and notable:

“No. No, I do not.”

It goes way beyond that, and perhaps his response is endemic of our present state:

“I don’t have confidence in anybody that is white that is doing an investigation about a black young man that was shot seven times in his back and hasn’t come up with an answer or a comment, at this point, is not welcome.”

At this point, per The New York Times, the investigation’s been assigned to the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.

Furthermore, officers involved have been placed on leave.

The Blake family’s retained lawyer Ben Crump, who also represented the family of George Floyd.

Here’s how Crump described the shooting:

“Blake was helping to deescalate a domestic incident when police drew their weapons and tasered him. As he was walking away to check on his children, police fired their weapons several times into his back at point blank range. Blake’s three sons were only a few feet away and witnessed police shoot their father.”

Furthermore, Ben made a promise:

“We will seek justice for Jacob Blake and for his family as we demand answers from the Kenosha Police Department. How many more of these tragic ‘while Black’ tragedies will it take until the racial profiling and undervaluing of Black lives by the police finally stopes?”

Whatever great steps America has taken toward racial unity these last several decades, it seems we’re walking briskly in reverse.

Maybe even jogging with urgency.

I fear it will get worse before it gets better.

But I hope it gets no worse.
