Would Biden Pursue the Death Penalty for the Boston Bomber? Mum's the Word, But El Paso's Shooting Was Trump's Fault

Would Joe Biden like to see the Boston bomber executed?

As reported by The Washington Free Beacon, Joe’s vowed to abolish the death penalty.

RedState’s Kira Davis recently reported that bombing perpetrator Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s death sentence was overturned Friday by a U.S. Appeals Court.

Subsequently, if Biden were to win the presidency, it’d be up to his Justice Department to prosecute and pursue execution.

Since the ruling, Joe’s kept quiet — although that could be because he’s sleeping.

I’m not sure Trump sleeps at all, and “mum” isn’t one of his vocabular staples:

“Rarely has anybody deserved the death penalty more than the Boston Bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. The court agreed that this ‘was one of the worst domestic terrorist attacks since the 9/11 atrocities.’ Yet the appellate court tossed out the death sentence. So many lives lost and ruined. The Federal Government must again seek the Death Penalty in a do-over of that chapter of the original trial. Our Country cannot let the appellate decision stand. Also, it is ridiculous that this process is taking so long!”

The horrific 2013 terrorist attack by Dzhokhar and his older brother, Tamerlan — who was killed during a police altercation — certainly damaged and destroyed a lot of lives.

A look back, from History.com:

At approximately 2:49 [the afternoon of April 15th], with more than 5,600 runners still in the race, two pressure-cooker bombs—packed with shrapnel and hidden in backpacks among crowds of marathon-watchers—exploded within seconds of each other near the finish line along Boylston Street.

The blasts instantly turned the sun-filled afternoon into a gruesome scene of bloodshed, destruction and chaos.

Three spectators died: a 23-year-old woman, a 29-year-old woman and an 8-year-old boy, while more than 260 other people were wounded. Sixteen people lost legs; the youngest amputee was a 7-year-old girl.

Back to Joe slumbering, he did appear to rise in his kerchief and cap Sunday to comment on the anniversary of the tragic El Paso Walmart shooting — an event leveraged by Democrats at the time to push for firearm legislation.

Biden didn’t use his video appearance to promise justice for Beantown, but he stumped for gun control and the need to fight white supremacy.

Here’s what the presumptive nominee had to say:

“As president, I’ll take on the powerful gun lobby to pass universal background checks, ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and close loopholes to keep guns out of dangerous hands. We can and will end our gun violence epidemic.”

Of course, none of that would end gun violence from mass shooters, since they’re already breaking the law in order to do the murder part.

As for the bombing, at the time of the tragedy, Joe labeled the terrorist brothers “twisted, perverted, cowardly, knock-off jihadis” while telling police at the memorial service for officer Sean Collier they were “all the things, these perverted jihadis, self-made or organized, all the things they fear.”

Things appear to have changed since then, as Joe’s gotten more woke.

Like his public respect for police officers, Biden’s support for the death penalty has waned during the 2020 campaign. Executions were a key part of the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, which Biden authored and described as doing “everything but hang[ing] people for jaywalking.” Barack Obama nominally supported capital punishment, as did 2016 nominee Hillary Clinton—a view consistently in line with the majority of Americans.

But yielding on capital punishment has been part of Biden’s leftward shift to meet the Democratic Party’s activist base. Biden’s campaign platform officially calls for ending the federal death penalty and giving federal capital offenders like Tsarnaev life without parole. Death penalty abolition also appears in draft text of the Democratic Party’s 2020 platform, mirroring the language used in the report from Biden’s “unity taskforce” with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.).

Under Obama — who called the death penalty “deeply troubling” — no executions were carried out. A Biden administration seems likely to follow suit.

Trump’s of a different view — earlier this month, America saw its first federal execution in 17 years.

Of course, in addressing the bombing at all, Joe always has an option unrelated to the death penalty — just as he did with El Paso, the guy could simply blame it on Trump:

“This anniversary is a moment to resume the purpose we felt a year ago, to recommit to the battle for the soul of this nation, a battle against the forces of white supremacy, which this president has encouraged and emboldened.”
