On Tuesday night’s The Story with Martha MacCallum, the host made a pretty hilarious and — many would say — accurate observation about Tuesday’s grilling of Attorney General Bill Barr by Democratic House Judiciary members.

If you missed, it was a doozy. As previously covered by RedState’s Sister Toldjah, at one point amid the interrogation over federal response to America’s violent riots, Bill proposed, “This is a hearing. I thought I was the one who was supposed to be heard.”

As noted by The Daily Caller, Fox News’s Martha called the day’s explosions a “raucous hearing” prior to introducing California Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell for a bit of grilling.

Speaking of grilling, by the way:

"I’m going to answer the damn question."

Back to Martha, she asserted the congressional Dems wouldn’t let Bill “breathe and answer.” “How is that a fair process?” she asked.

Eric suggested Bill’s a big boy and can take it:

“Well, the attorney general doesn’t need an ice-cream cone before he sits down.”

Still, Martha countered, “He needs to be allowed to answer the question.”

“[House Democrats] wouldn’t let him answer a single question. … They kept saying, ‘Oh, give me back my time, give me back my time.’ So here’s my question. Your committee has wanted him to come in here for a long time, right? I might think myself and a lot of other Americans wanted to see the exchange, because many of you have accused him of sidling up to the President, acting on his behalf. This was a golden opportunity for the country to hear what his answer was, and they didn’t get to hear what his answer was, and I’m wondering if there was a fear that if he was given that opportunity that he might be persuasive to some people.”

The two went back and forth, with Eric joking, “I don’t think he’s as weak as you are describing him.”

Martha wasn’t having it:

“You brought him in there to answer questions, and then you didn’t give him a chance to answer. It doesn’t matter what side of the fence you are on, anybody can watch that process and say that it was not a hearing. That was not a hearing.”

Most pointedly, MacCallum dropped this bomb:

“I mean, you could have just propped up a picture of him and yelled at it.”

Doesn’t sound wrong.

Of course, that description could apply to a host of goings-on in politics. As for the hearing, it seems to me our elected officials need to be willing to work together in order to better the country, not play the game of “My team attacks your team for the win.”

That’s not a win; it’s quite the opposite.

If that’s how hearings on the riots are going to be held, then the hearings aren’t a whole lot different from some of the riots — it’s one group yelling at another.

We’ve probably had enough of that.

But I like Martha’s idea — it’ll help the environment, since Bill can keep his gas-guzzler in the driveway. And since the Dems are all about masks, they can reduce the size of the group by one, improving social distancing.

And that’s a win.

Right?
