Last week, I wrote of RuPaul’s upcoming appearance on game show giant The Price is Right.

Most notable about Ru’s participation was his playing for charity — specifically a certain women’s clinic.

Well, we’re on the other side now, and here’s how it went.

During a prime time special, Ru came on down to boost abortion with beaucoup bucks, and the drag icon did just that.

From Fox News:

The longest-running game show in television history aired Monday evening with regular host Drew Carey joined by Emmy-winning host of RuPaul’s Drag Race, RuPaul. The famous drag queen was on hand to help raise money for charity, with the show promising to match all the contestants’ prize winnings with a donation to Planned Parenthood.

“Contestants won big during the special,” Fox relayed.

Ru raked it in: $97,266.

This meant that the same dollar amount is now going to the organization as a charitable donation.

CBS seemed excited — they called it “awesome”:

And some on Twitter were stoked:

Of course, critics countered:

Personally, whatever the issue, I don’t believe game show viewers want to see their programs go the route of politics. I’m of the opinion that, generally, people are sick to death of entertainment treading water in the most intense arguments of our time.

And I’d not be surprised if a minority of The Price is Right fans identify as pro-choice.

As for Ru — who’s mom worked for PP — he’s a long-time advocate.

In 2017, the entrepreneur shared his feelings with Marie Claire:

“Women in our culture have been so marginalized and so really beaten down. We live in a masculine-dominated culture. How dare some man tell a woman what to do with her body. That is outrageous! Outrageous. As a human, that is a big issue for me that really strikes a chord. My mother, she had never really had a job before. Planned Parenthood represented so much freedom for us. For me to watch her blossom into a working woman and self-sufficient after this sort of system of being married to a man and staying home, after that façade fell apart, she built herself back up. In my heart, it represents so much strength, and I think it’s a very important organization.”

Why does Hollywood want to infuse its politics into so much? If you ask me, we’ve jumped the shark when Americans can’t even watch someone guess the price of a toaster without being placed on one side or the other of a great — perhaps the greatest — divide.

Apparently, the Price is Right feels differently. Therefore, on Monday, The Price was Left.
