Damn democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a damn message for her damn critics.
She made that clear on damn Sunday.
In case you missed it, during a congressional hearing last Thursday — in which she tried to destroy the myth of the American dream — AOC schooled the world on shoes and metaphor.
Here’s what she let us all know, related to a famous phrase:
“I also want to thank you about bringing up the poverty draft and this idea of a bootstrap. You know, this idea and this metaphor of a bootstrap started off as a joke because it’s a physical impossibility to lift yourself up by a bootstrap — by your shoelaces? It’s physically impossible. The whole thing is a joke.”
It resulted in a giant wave of commentary:
Not sure what's funnier:
>AOC taking metaphors literally
>AOC, a former bartender who is now a congressman, dismissing the idea of pulling yourself up by the bootstraps https://t.co/VuMYnlEmtR

When you speak positively about hard work and the idea of self, you empower people.
@AOC wants you to think that the only way success is via the government handouts. "They" will lift you up by your bootstraps. Entitlements = government servitude. Socialism kills. #walkaway

I'm beginning to suspect that @AOC may not be the brightest light on the tree.

Does she know how to logically think through anything? I’ve only seen her emotionally driven pontifications. Her stupidity is embarrassing.

"Capitalists are no more capable of self-sacrifice than a man is capable of lifting himself up by his own bootstraps." Oh wait. This is a quote from Vladimir Lenin. Isn't it freaky #AOC is using talking points from a communist that instituted the #RedTerror upon gaining power. pic.twitter.com/RmEMZnqPH1

She’s also never heard a diamond ring or seen a house fly… You can tune a piano but you can’t tuna fish… I’m amazed she felt compelled to say this like it was a real point. https://t.co/MEWEiZeQF8

@AOC Was surprised it’s not made out of actual waffles.

Besides lifting yourself up by your bootstraps, what else is @AOC going to teach us is literally impossible?

On Sunday, the former bartender stirred the damn nest:
“For GOPers who spent this week mocking the poor w/“bootstrap” jokes, why don’t you listen to Ms. Hutchinson’s testimony & give one damn reason why we shouldn’t have an accurate poverty line in this country. Unless of course you were talking w/o paying attention to the actual hearing.”

As observed by the Washington Examiner, it’s not Alexandria’s first time to bash the idea that you can succeed in America through your own hard work:
Ah yes, of course, it’s classic Republican “bootstrap” meritocracy: where the smartest, hardest-working, most fitting person for the job just so happens to be your son-in-law. https://t.co/u6mqhrJlGS
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) December 14, 2018
And here’s what she dropped last week:
I see that the right is worked up that we pointed out the myth of bootstrapping when 60% of the wealth in this country is *inherited.*
But hey, if you think I’m hopelessly dumb, try listening to MLK talk about “bootstrapping” & the racial wealth gap, too: pic.twitter.com/RHdSfzaJzH
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 6, 2020
I worked my butt off to get elected against all odds, without any special connections or money. I worked double shifts and wore through my shoes, outspent 10:1 to get elected.
Even w/ all that hard work, it would be narcissistic to pretend I “bootstrapped” it alone & w/o others.
— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 6, 2020
Well there ya go. If there’s one thing she’s absolutely against, it’s narcissism.
Apropos, If you’d like to learn more from a humble New York representative and her boyfriend, you’re in luck: Find out how white people can combat racism right here.
And maybe the next time you wanna lift yourself up, do it with an elevator.
In flip flops.
