They Do Things a Little Differently Out West: Gwyneth Paltrow's Health and Wellness Site Sells a Candle That's a Real Conversation Starter

You know that chamomile spray you put on your pillow? It probably helps you sleep.

And that lavender-laced potpourri makes for a relaxing room.

But how about your candle? Is the ignited aromatherapy working for ya?

If not, perhaps it’s time to try something different.

Smells can certainly affect your mood.

So how about use some common scents?

Now you can be holistic like Hollywood — actress Gwyneth Paltrow’s got just the thing.

Her lifestyle and wellness website, Goop, is now offering a wax-and-wick wonder called…well, here’s the Daily Mail:

The 47-year-old actress has listed a $75 candle, which she has cheekily named ‘This Smells Like My Vagina’, for sale in her online Goop shop and revealed that the geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar scented candle, originally started as a joke.

According to the product’s description: ‘This candle started as a joke between perfumer Douglas Little and GP—the two were working on a fragrance, and she blurted out, “Uhhh..this smells like a vagina”—but evolved into a funny, gorgeous, sexy, and beautifully unexpected scent.

The topic’s far from taboo at the alternative self-care site. Also not a stranger: lawsuits.

From Shape.com:

Fans of Gwyneth Paltrow’s website Goop know that sometimes she advocates some pretty out-there health practices (think steaming your vagina, or that whole $200 smoothie thing). One of the most controversial ideas she’s suggested women try in the name of wellness? Putting eggs made of jade and other stones into your vagina in order to “balance hormones,” regulate menstrual cycles, and improve your sex life. Well, surprising to no one, an investigation recently found that its health claims about jade and rose quartz eggs were seriously misleading—and Goop agreed to pay $145,000 in civil penalties to settle the claim.

Sadly, according to The New York Times, the claims “were not supported by competent and reliable scientific evidence.”

🙁

Oh well. We’ll hope for a better plight for the candle.

Things must be going well — it’s currently sold out.

If you’re not ready to sign up for the waiting list just yet, there may soon be an alternative.

The most original ideas inspire other game-changers…
