On Saturday, I covered Elizabeth Warren’s lesson on wealth inequality, which called Pakistanis, people from India, and the Chinese “white.”
Perhaps she got confused since she’s a white American Indian, but still — #Pitiful.
And just as goofy: Class warfare, which is the centerpiece of Wealth Inequality.
Jane Lynch is no dummy, and she can recognize what’s what.
Therefore, the great actress called a spade a spade. And pointed out a painful truth — billionaires are people, too:
“Hello everyone. Billionaires in wine caves have as much right to say who gets to be president as waitresses in diners and plumbers in my bathroom. Class warfare is ugly, @ewarren Thanks for listening everyone.”

She’s spot-on with that “ugly” thing.
Personally, I find it ridiculous and counterproductive to vilify the wealthy. What’s one good thing that that accomplishes? So far, I’ve thought of zero.
Nevertheless, during the sixth Democratic debate — and in front of a stunningly fantastic Politico/PBS background — Warren and Buttigieg got into a tussle over rich campaign donors.
Here’s Liz:
“We can’t have people who can put down $5,000 for a check drown out the voices of everyone else. They don’t in my campaign, and they won’t in my white house.”
Pete’s volley: Dems can’t take down Trump “with one hand tied behind our back.”
That’s when Elizabeth dropped the wine line:
“So, the mayor just recently had a fundraiser that was held in a wine cave full of crystals and served $900-a-bottle wine. Think about who comes to that. He had promised that every fundraiser he would do would be open-door, but this one was closed-door. We made the decision many years ago that rich people in smoke-filled rooms would not pick the next president of the United States. Billionaires in wine caves should not pick the next president of the United States.”
Then she shone a light into the sky…hey, what’s she signaling? Oh, yeah — virtue:
“I do not sell access to my time. … I don’t meet behind closed doors with big-dollar donors.”
It should be noted: We all sell access to our time. But why say stuff that makes sense when you can release things you think sound good?
Back to that class warfare thing, Jane got jabbed:
Whew.
Really wishing you had chosen not to comment.
Love your acting but this is a garbage take that completely misses the point and minimizes the corrupting influence of money in politics.
Class warfare is a constant. And 99% of us are its casualties. THAT’S what’s “ugly.”

Yes, "class warfare" is quite ugly.
And the ultra-rich should stop fighting the war.

When waitresses & plumbers can buy access to people running for president, then we can discuss how class warfare is unfair to the wealthy.

do you, a functioning adult, actually believe that billionaires and waitresses currently have equal power to choose their elected officials?

Even the good doctor, Eugene Gu, got in a punch:
This reminds me of Marie Antoinette—but a modern version where you say let them drink wine in wine caves when they toil cleaning up after the mess you leave behind as plumbers in your bathroom. One billionaire shouldn’t have more say than all the plumbers in the whole country.

Eugene’s no stranger to political tweeting.
Or biological:
It’s a scientific and medical fact that men can get pregnant and also have abortions. Trans men and non-binary individuals are human beings who deserve to be acknowledged by society. They choose their own identity—not me, not you, not any doctor, and certainly not any politician.

And Jane is pregnant — with love, for Amy Klobuchar. Even though she previously donated to Pete’s campaign:
Cosign oh so full heartedly! @amyklobuchar https://t.co/3RIfSs2ImS

As for Liz and the war of rich vs not: I agree with her. She’s worth $12 million, so I anxiously await her shedding all her assets, down to the median American income.
Let’s get this party started. Use that “For” line on your checks, Liz — just write “Justice.”
Or, if you like, “Being Taken Seriously.”
