There’s been a lot of talk — a lot of talk — about the sinister evil of America’s most popular hunting rifle, the dastardly AR-15. We’ve been taught it’s magically more dangerous than any other rifle.
And not long ago, Beto O’Rourke waged war against the AR-15 and AK-47.
What no one seems to mind, even though they do the bulk of human damage: handguns.
Apropos, a story you’re not likely to see on MSNBC is that of Jamaican man Donovan Stewart.
As reported by CBS4 Miami, the 60-year-old was in a van with his girlfriend and their 11-year-old son recently when a would-be jewelry thief broke in.
And the goon was wielding an AK.
Yes — that AK.
But Donovan’s one of them there crazy people: that would be, an NRA member.
As such, he legally owns a handgun via a state firearms license.
Still, what could that do against a “weapon of war”?
Plus, the other guy had been practicing — Donovan was just another stop in a series of crime: According to a woman who spoke to CBS at the scene, two days prior, the rifled robber had taken $600 and her iPhone.
Anyway, so there they were — the armed thief with his scepter of Satan, and Donovan with his little, non-spooky pistol that deserves absolutely no airtime.
What’s a guy with a little gun to do?
But then, Donovan had a thought: Pull the trigger.
It turned out to be a great idea.
Here’s Donovan:
“This man tried to get in my van while I was sleeping, and he was surprised to see what I did.”
What choice did he have?
“I am going to defend my life and those I love. My family is innocent, and just don’t put an AK-47 in my face. I will not allow that to happen.”
Donovan went for a bit of the ol’ reduction of inventory:
“I am from Kingstontown in Jamaica, and I am not going to go out like a punk. So I emptied my Glock in his chest.”
Donavan Stewart won’t be finding the national spotlight or participating in a town hall. Neither will his gun.
But he’s probably okay with that. He sounds like a man who likes to take care of things and move on with his life.
“The guy I killed last night, he put an AK-47 to my damn face.”
He’s cool as an ice cube. In fact, now he and the rapper of the same name have something in common. Despite the prominent message, it doesn’t take a big gun:
