On The View, fiery Meghan McCain had a message for Democrats: It may be funny to you now, but it won’t in the end.

She was referring to the White House’s decision to bulk up its impeachment defense team with the addition of Republican South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy.

Upon hearing the announcement, some on social media had posted video of former prosecutor Trey previously ripping the Obama administration over withholding subpoenaed documents in the Benghazi investigation.

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg played the clip Wednesday, to the audience’s delight.

In the video, Trey insists:

“The notion that you can withhold information and documents from Congress, no matter whether you’re the party in power or not in power is wrong. Respect for the rule of law must mean something irrespective of the vicissitudes of political cycles.”

Joy cheered, “We agree!”

But Meghan didn’t get it. She championed Gowdy:

“I think I’m confused why everyone’s laughing, because my take on it is that they’ve been having closed hearings. And don’t we want as [much] transparency as possible? And you can laugh all you want about Trey Gowdy, but he’s one of the great congressmen.”

Meghan is a bucket of attitude, and sometimes she gets poured:

“He’s a brilliant orator, he’s someone I’ve respected for years. You can laugh all you want, but the fact that he’s joining Trump’s team is good news for Trump and bad news for Democrats.”

“I don’t know if it’s bad news for Democrats,” Whoopi volleyed, “but everyone is laughing at…the hypocrisy…”

Sunni Hostin picked up, “Because he’s supporting the White House’s position that they’re not going to provide documents, they’re not going to testify.”

Meghan — who, as you well know, is no fan of the President — struck back:

“But Democrats also aren’t bringing things into the light of day. I want to see the congressional testimonies. Which, by the way, it is unprecedented that there is no confidential information that has been told in these hearings with (U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine) Kurt Volker. I believe the American public — I think it should be live on TV, and we should all hear what they have to say. Because it seems like Democrats don’t want me to know what they’re saying.”

Whoopi brought it back to Trump:

“Let’s not forget…what this is all about. This is about the President being on a phone call and, perhaps, breaking the law. … Let’s not forget that. So all of this pushback of ‘We’re not going to cooperate…doesn’t change the fact that potentially, you broke the law. … It does not change the fact that every other American on this planet, if they are given a subpoena, you gotta show up.”

The audience exploded.

Meghan’s no stranger to telling her more liberal cohorts to laugh it up now, but a frowny face is comin’. Just weeks ago, during a discussion about the possibility of impeachment, McCain dared Dems to unleash the you-know-what:

“I will say, Sunny has been a big proponent throughout…the entire time…we’ve been talking about it on the show of impeachment. I will say — okay, let me finish: Unleash the Kraken! If you’re not going to listen to Nancy Pelosi about the political implications of this, just impeach him then, and see what happens politically.”

She also bolstered that argument with a little bit of history:

“What happened with Clinton in the ‘90s ended up hurting Republicans, and I think historians said it too. Just impeach him, then. Because, quite frankly, I’m sick of hearing everybody b*tch about it.”

And now here we are.

Meghan believes the lack of disclosure is telling:

“People who are in the text messages — Giuliani and Kurt Volker — I would like to see what they have to say behind closed doors. And that is still being kept in private, which makes me think maybe it wasn’t as damning as Democrats are saying right now.”

Meghan got in one last good one for Trey:

“And by the way, if I was in a fox hole, I want Trey Gowdy with me.”

If a trial to oust Trump moves forward, a fox hole is right. But, as I wrote here, the process won’t lead to Democratic victory. If Dems think 2016 was a $#@*storm, impeachment mania will unleash the Crappin’.
