RedState’s Bonchie previously covered the story of a man setting himself on fire in front of the White House Wednesday.

Here’s Bonchie’s description:

There was some kind of trans, yada, yada, yada protest going on at the White House yesterday. Apparently Trump is trying to stop transgender people from getting healthcare? I don’t know, I’ve lost track of all the faux outrages at this point.

During the protest, a man literally set himself on fire. And I don’t mean a small flame, I mean a full on, body engulfing inferno.

The White House has now announced the man died of his injuries.

The U.S. Park Police released a briefing saying the incident occurred at 12:25 p.m. on The Ellipse, south of the White House near 15th Street.

In a tweet, the agency explained, “The individual was extinguished and later transported to a local hospital for treatment.”

The deceased has now been identified as Arnav Gupta of Bethesda, Md. He was admitted to the ER with “life-threatening injuries.” He passed away Wednesday night.

Family members reported they’d last seen Arnav at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, and they were “concerned for [his] physical and emotional welfare.”

Arnav wasn’t just a little bit on fire. He was blazing. Smoke filled the area.

According to a witness, the 33-year-old was running through the park before he lit fire to himself.

Here’s a far-off view of Arnav being extinguished:

Why would anyone do this? What does it prove? What’s the statement?

A man has died, for no reason.

Was it related to the protest going on? Was it a challenge to Trump’s presidency? Whatever the intent, Arnav’s message will go unheard.

Civil discourse allows our nation to communicate, heal, and grow. These days, there doesn’t seem to be much of it.

Either way, today Arnav Gupta is no longer with us. And the reality is, we may never know why.
