Harvard Grad & Renowned Islamic Scholar Cheers Brunei's New Death Penalty for Gays: 'Isn't It Great?'

What’s Islam all about? It’s a fair question in America, circa. 2019.

Some say the Muhammad-revering faith is a religion of peace; others claim you can’t be sold-out to Allah without supporting death to the infidels.

So which is it?

The debate is sure to continue among non-believers. But for Islamic scholar and Harvard alumnus Daniel Haqiqatjou, one thing’s certain: Brunei’s newly-instituted death penalty for homosexuality is really, really cool.

On Wednesday April 3rd, the Southeast Asian nation puts into effect a new legal code which includes harsh penalties for theft, adultery, and homosexuality. “Harsh,” as in maiming and stoning. Stoning, as in you’re dead.

Previously, gays were merely imprisoned.

As the West condemns the legislation from monarch and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah — who owns a slew of fancypants hotels in LA — Daniel wants everybody to know he’s keen on the offing of “rectum-sex enthusiasts.” In fact, he wants other Muslim countries to follow suit.

Courtesy of his MuslimSkeptic website, the founder of Islamic apologetics organization Alasna fawns over the Sultan.

His article begins with the ol’ basic cheer-up:

If you have had a rough week or are feeling down in the dumps, I have just the news to cheer you up. The Muslim country of Brunei is implementing hudud to crack down on sodomites and fornicators!

hudud = A punishment fixed in the Quran and hadith for crimes considered to be against the rights of God. The six crimes for which punishments are fixed are theft (amputation of the hand), illicit sexual relations (death by stoning or one hundred lashes), making unproven accusations of illicit sex (eighty lashes), drinking intoxicants (eighty lashes), apostasy (death or banishment), and highway robbery (death).

Daniel loves him some Sharia law — just like Women’s March leader, Linda Sarsour:

Dan continues:

The Sharia protects all of our rights, individually and communally. When rectum-sex enthusiasts are allowed to promote their gender-bending degeneracy openly, that deeply harms all of us.

Some people — like George Clooney — want to boycott the Sultan’s Los Angeles hotels (here). To Daniel, that’s a reeeal gasser:

I think Muslims need to counteract any boycott by making Brunei their next vacation destination spot. Maybe some of these expensive spiritual tourism tours led by shuyukh can make Brunei the next go-to site, maybe attend a caning or two so Western Muslims can experience first hand what implementing hudud actually means. Just a thought.

shuyukh = Sheik.

He closes with this:

By the way, how silly that these Western politicians and celebrities can’t stand it that a Muslim country implements the Sharia. They are frothing with anger. Isn’t it great?

For a bit of the cherry on top, he gives us one of these:

Nice Planet of the Apes meme!

So where does Daniel’s point of view sit within the American Islamic community? To what degree is he an outlier?

It may be something of which non-Muslims in the U.S. would like to be more sure. Our society — and our government — is becoming more diverse. In what direction, therefore, are we moving?

As for his outlier status, Daniel Haqiqatjou has been featured on CNN and Al Jazeera, and in pieces by The Washington Post, The Atlantic, and First Things.
