Report: Sick of Ilhan Omar's Relentless Anti-Semitism, Democrats Are Eyeing a Replacement

Minnesota Ilhan Omar, it seems to me, is an albatross about the neck of the Democratic Party.

Is she really adding anything good to the Dem profile?

As per a report by The Hill Thursday, there are some in the party who are looking to replace the blight of her presence with a new nominee. Meetings have been had.

From report:

Some Minnesota Democrats, aghast at controversial comments made by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D), are taking initial steps to recruit a candidate to run against her in next year’s primary election, seeking to buck history in one of the nation’s most progressive legislative districts.

Several party leaders said they have had discussions about finding a candidate to take on Omar, just two months into her first term in Congress.

Makes sense. She can’t seem to keep from revealing her hell-bent ache to rid the planet of Israel. It’s a shock that she was elected.

Then again, do enough of the voters in her district mind? As I covered in February, it’s the #1 Islamic terrorist recruitment area in the United States (here).

Either way, so far, according to Democratic Minn. Sen. Ron Latz, there’s no one person being positioned to run against her:

“There’s definitely some buzz going around about it, but it’s more a buzz of is anyone talking about finding someone to run against her than it is anyone saying they’re going to run against her or contemplate it. There’s definitely talk about people wanting someone to run against her.”

There are certainly some Jews in Minnesota who’d love to see her get the boot — following anti-Semitic comments made in her first few weeks on the job, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas released a statement condemning her. Executive Director Steve Hunegs had this to say:

“Our community is exasperated by Rep. Omar’s unfulfilled promises to listen and learn from Jewish constituents while seemingly simultaneously finding another opportunity to make an anti-Semitic remark and insult our community.”

Heck, even Bill Maher — who initially defended Ilmar — has even said, essentially, “Okay, yeah — she may be anti-Semitic.”

She’s made a little bit of an attempt to quell the controversies: She’s met with Hunegs and Jewish leaders in Minnesota and D.C.

But as for her anti-Semitism, Wednesday, Hunegs told The Hill it didn’t amount to much:

“Unfortunately, having the opportunity to speak with her about that point didn’t dissuade her making that statement. We were appalled.”

Yeah. That ain’t doin’ much.

So who can take down Omar? Maybe this guy:

Some Democrats are eyeing Bobby Joe Champion, a state senator who has served in the legislature for a decade. Others hope to entice Minneapolis City Councilwoman Andrea Jenkins, the first openly transgender African-American woman elected to public office in the United States.

She’s certainly not winning people over as of late.

Sen. Latz said he’d be “pretty uncomfortable supporting Rep. Omar right now, given what [he’s] learned about her since the election and given her apparent inability to stop insulting Jews.”

Like I said: Makes sense.
