Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal is one of the stupidest documents ever written.
That, according to Ben Shapiro (here).
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal is ridiculous (here).
That, according to anything that isn’t ridiculous (here and here).
Well, now an economic big-hitter has joined the ranks of those pointing out how imbecilic the plan is: the AFL-CIO.
That would be, the country’s largest organized-labor group.
In a letter to Sen. Ed Markey — who worked with AOC on the proposal bullseyeing cow farts as the nemesis of the Earth…
…Actually, let me just stop right there for a moment. Think about how wimpy the planet must be: It’s so delicate, it’s in danger of being killed by a fart.
Surely some of you have felt at points in your life — perhaps in bed or a car or an elevator — that you were in a similar situation of extreme peril; but still.
Okay, back to Big Labor:
In a letter to Ed Markey (below), the organization warned that following the Green New Deal could cause “immediate harm to millions” of union members.
Oh, and also: AOC’s dreamy moves are “not achievable or realistic.”
Retrofitting every building in America and getting rid of planes isn’t realistic (here)? What the hey?!
The March 8 letter — which was signed by 10 national labor unions on the AFL-CIO’s Energy Committee — also said this:
We welcome the call for labor rights and dialogue with labor, but the Green New Deal resolution is far too short on specific solutions that speak to the jobs of our members and the critical sections of our economy.
We will not accept proposals that could cause immediate harm to millions of our members and their families. We will not stand by and allow threats to our members’ jobs and their families’ standard of living go unanswered. We are ready to discuss these issues in a responsible way, for we all recognize that doing nothing is not an option.
Republican Sen. John Barrasso seconded:
The @AFLCIO, which represents 12.5 million workers & includes 55 labor unions, slams the #GreenNewDeal in a letter to @SenMarkey & @AOC:
“We will not accept proposals that could cause immediate harm to millions of our members and their families.”
I agree with the AFL-CIO. pic.twitter.com/pEVhr9Ricr

Ed Markey didn’t:
We will continue to work and partner w @AFLCIO, who is right to say that “doing nothing is not an option”. But until Republicans say that climate change is real, caused by humans, and demands action now, the only people they are in agreement with are Big Oil and the Koch brothers https://t.co/I7QEygTk9C

What’s the big deal? It’ll only revolutionize the West and cost trillions, as per The Washington Times:
The Green New Deal, a non-binding resolution that has earned the support of every 2020 Democratic candidate, seeks to transition the country completely off fossil fuels within 10 years. The plan, which would require a major economic overhaul, is projected to cost tens of trillions of dollars.
Unsurprisingly, the AFL-CIO wasn’t consulted before the GND was released.
Also not consulted: reason.
