Activist Alyssa Milano Raises $100,000 for the Migrant Caravan; Some Want to Stop Our Vets From Going Homeless and Hungry

Alyssa Milano has launched an initiative to raise money for the migrant caravan, presently headed toward America’s southern perimeter and aimed at knocking down the U.S. gate by force. ‘Cause otherwise…how would they get in?

Alyssa’s raising $100,000 to help the group, which is currently living in tents and waiting half an hour to use the Port-o-Potty — which is, of course, not good (here).

Here’s the actress:

“Some friends and I are trying to raise $100,000 today to help some people in the fight of their lives, seeking asylum at our southern border. Would you be willing to give #FiveForFamilies to help out?”

So who’s actually in the group? As reported by Fox News Wednesday, a breakdown of the over-six-thousand-and-growing group goes as follows:

“The total number of migrants in Tijuana alone break down this way: 6,062 total, comprising of 3,877 men, 1,127 women and 1,058 children.”

On its website, the group describes itself this way:

“Families Belong Together is on the ground with the refugee caravan in Tijuana. We’re with individuals, families, and children of all backgrounds and from various countries, who are seeking safety and a better life. Many members have already begun the asylum application process and are waiting patiently to hear back about next steps. These people are fleeing persecution and violence and are legally applying for asylum at a US port of entry.”

That last statement, according to MSNBC, is not true (here):

“Some of them may be eligible for asylum in the United States, but they are in the minority of this caravan.”

That means, of course, that most won’t be allowed in.

Either way, as of November 24th, the organization had triumphantly raised $74,000.

Some on Twitter had some strong opinions about the star’s charity, as it relates to helping those already in dire need within the U.S:

Alyssa should absolutely raise money for whatever cause is close to her heart. And certainly, the world needs different people who care about different things, to help different people in different ways.

As for domestic causes, there is certainly no shortage of need.

Here’s a tiny sampling:

As per SocialSolutions.com, there are 564,000 homeless people living in the U.S., 57,000 of them veterans.

Approximately 380,000 Americans under the age of 18 have been homeless for a minimum of a week.

Another group worthy of assistance: United Soldiers and Sailors of America (see the video below).

Giving to others is an important component of joy. What are the causes that bring you fulfillment?
