Can someone please hand Stacey Abrams a Scantron sheet?

For the life of her, she seems unable to answer the simplest question about a giant component of her platform as a Georgia gubernatorial candidate.

To be clear, I’d be happy for most all of politics to be converted to Scantron (multiple choice tests).

Appearing last week on The View, Abrams was asked by Meghan McCain if she planned to confiscate all the sinister AR-15’s in Georgia (here). She wouldn’t say.

And on CNN Sunday, déjà vu.

Jake Tapper asked about the “C” word:

“When you were a state lawmaker in 2016, you co-sponsored a bill that would’ve allowed Georgia state authorities to take away so-called assault weapons from current gun owners. Most similar bans would grandfather in existing weapons of that sort, semiautomatic rifles that are called assault weapons. So, is that your current position — that law-abiding gun owners in Georgia should have to give up those weapons if authorities deem it necessary?”

Great question. And “semi-automatic rifles that are called assault weapons” should just be “some scary-looking rifles.”

Abrams had her chance to do that most un-political of things: answer a question.

Alas, no dice:

“In the state of Georgia, you introduce legislation to start conversations. I am happy to work with the legislature to figure out how we make an assault weapons ban work.”

This is something the citizens of Georgia have agreed upon? That “legislation” is just some people shootin’ the breeze? Must be:

“I am happy to work with the legislature to figure out how we make an assault weapons ban work.”

Shouldn’t she figure that out before she introduces legislation?

And, again, these are not “assault weapons.” They are hunting rifles that look spooky.

“We have to have common-sense gun safety legislation. … [I] believe that our responsibility is to make certain that the most vulnerable in our society do not face those who are irresponsible with their weapons.”

And you do that by disarming the vulnerable? How about just having common-sense murder legislation?

“AR-15’s are not necessary on our streets. Semi-automatic weapons have to be put under a certain level of responsible control…”

Are tons of people carrying AR-15’s “on the street?”

Abrams’s use of the term “semi-automatic weapons” is telling — it’s a term left-wing politicians and pundits use in order to galvanize the ignorant. As anyone vaguely familiar with guns knows, “semi-automatic gun” is the same as “gun.” Essentially, all legal guns are semi-automatic. Using the modifier suggests they are, comparatively, particularly sinister weapons.

They’re semi-automatic! Run for the hills!!!!

About the 2016 bill, Jake pushed:

“Your co-sponsor told reporters the law, quote, ‘Would require gun owners of these particular models to turn their guns in.'”

Abrams went back to the idea that bills are just topics of discussion as on an episode of SNL’s “Coffee Talk”:

“And again, my point is this: the legislation introduced is the beginning of a conversation.”

Talk amongst yourselves. I’m getting verklempt.

“But the fundamental responsibility is common-sense gun safety legislation in Georgia. Making sure we get dangerous weapons off the streets, and that responsible gun owners stand together to hold those who are irresponsible accountable…”

If you must get “dangerous weapons off the streets,” then ya gotta ban all guns, period. That’s the point of a gun — to be a dangerous weapon.

Also, as for “responsible gun owners [standing] together to hold those who are irresponsible accountable”: That’s the very definition of self-defense with a gun, the very thing those on the Left seem intent upon preventing (here, here, and here).

Jake — who greatly impressed me during the interview (I mean…this is CNN) — gave it another shot:

“But just be clear…I’m just trying to understand. You don’t support the actual legislation? You just support having a conversation about it?”

Still no answer.

Tapper was surely tapped out.
