In your latest piece of depressing news involving sucky Republicans, House Transportation Committee Chairman, lobbyist-caresser, and super-cronyist Rep. Bill Shuster just got a big boost in his bid for re-election. It comes from… a big labor union boasting about 200,000 members. From Politico:
Ads by the Amalgamated Transit Union started running Tuesday in Pennsylvania’s 9th District, where Bill Shuster is fighting to keep his seat against Art Halvorson… The ad for Shuster lauds his work on the FAST Act: “While others have been fighting and bickering, Bill Shuster rallied both Republicans and Democrats to support and pass the most importation transportation bill for America in years,” it says.
As a reminder, the FAST Act isn’t the first, or even most significant, piece of legislation Shuster has pushed that Big Labor just loves. As Heritage has noted, his FAA bill is a total giveaway to unions who of course support it along with big airlines who are represented by his lobbyist girlfriend, who of course doesn’t lobby him per se (though I’m sure he’s, ahem, pretty naturally attuned to her interests).
This news just confirms it: Unions love Shuster. Which is probably a pretty good reason for conservatives to be skeptical about him, should he win on Tuesday.
