It always amuses me when anyone pretends Donald Trump’s flip-flopping only takes place over a long timeline. As though he forever ago changed his mind on a lot of issues and has been consistent ever since.
The truth is he is a serial flip-flopper who constantly adjusts his position to fit whatever particular conversation he’s having at the moment. If he gets flustered enough, he might actually say what he really thinks which is what happened on Saturday’s debate.
Transcript of the relevant portion via Yahoo (emphasis mine):
“Obviously, the war in Iraq was a big, fat mistake, all right?” Trump thundered when asked about his call for then-President George W. Bush to be impeached. “They lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction. There were none, and they knew there were none.”
There’s been more than enough coverage of this to make my adding to the chorus of critics highlighting the difference between incorrect and untruthful completely unnecessary. Suffice to say no one at the time believed anything other than what George W. Bush was saying, much less George W. Bush.
Given the pushback he received after this debate snafu, it seems the heat was too much and Trump has reverted to form. Now he says Bush didn’t lie. We at Digitas Daily have helpfully provided his new comments juxtaposed with his old comments for your enjoyment.
