I have read a lot about an American's "right" to free speech on Twitter/X these days, following the brutal murder of an Israeli Christian and a Jewish American couple, just about to get married, a few nights ago. Usually, in the context of “Don't blame me,” the pontificators pontificate because I have the First Amendment right as an American to say what I want, and if I want to say Israel is killing babies or committing genocide, you can't infringe upon my right.
"How dare you?" they sputter, like the privileged and spoiled children they are.
Of course, there is some irony here, because many of the Americans making these claims were only too eager to restrict the speech rights of other Americans during the COVID crisis, because of the great danger to the nanny state of people knowing the real facts of COVID. But that is another story, for another column.
Let me educate these supposed principled American free speech advocates. It's not about your rights. It is about your “responsibilities.” Your responsibilities as a person, as an American, to not inflame a potentially dangerous situation and to invite violence. And to never do so by outright and flagrantly lying about the subject at hand.
In the old days, before wokeness was a thing, this was understood to be something civilized American gentlemen would do. (“Gentlemen” being the standard word for both “men” and “women.”) This was to be done to create a civilized society and a functioning republic in the U.S.
So, you know, we could all get along.
What this means, my slow thinking and immoral friends – yes, I am indeed making fun of your disability and making a moral judgment on you – is that a civilized American gentleman is responsible for the violence that occurs because another American commits a crime or act of violence because the first person was outrageously lying to incite about a controversial matter, or even if that first person was just telling something he (or she) recklessly thought was true without putting in the due diligence to make sure it was indeed, actually, true.
In the case of the murders of those two young people, the immoral fabulists running about claiming Israeli “genocide,” “war crimes,” “murder of babies,” and other lies are indeed responsible for inviting this murderous and unstable terrorist to kill two people who were totally innocent of any crimes. These immoral dolts need to stop their lying.
And I don’t care what religion they are, or what ethnic or sexual background they have. As long as they are Americans, that is their responsibility. (And if they are not American, it is time to send them home.)

Also, in the two attempted assassinations of President Trump, one of which almost succeeded and resulted in the death of an American citizen desperately trying to protect his daughters from the bullets, those shouting from the rooftops that “Trump is Hitler,” “Trump is a dictator,” “Trump wants to discriminate against/kill gays, blacks, Jews, Hispanics,” whatever, are indeed responsible for their reckless lies which incited the murderous and unstable shooter(s), who we still know very little about. (And why is that?) These immoral dolts need to stop their lying.
And I don’t care what their political party is, or their ideological leanings. As long as they are Americans, that is their responsibility. (And if they are not American, it is time to send them home.)
Also, there are plenty more incidents worth mentioning. The murder of Brian Thompson, the attempted murder of Republican Congressmen, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, the attacks on Gov. Josh Shapiro and Sen. Rand Paul, and others.
Far, far too many others, in my view.
When an American gentleman refuses to accept his responsibility – to behave like a civilized American man – and stop lying to incite others, he should be called out by other Americans for his immorality and dishonesty. He should be shamed by his peers. He should be shunned by society. (But note I am not saying he should be punished by the government.)
Now is way past the time for the rest of us to educate these people. We, the civilized Americans, need to tell these doltish and immoral liars to behave. Real people are dying because of their irresponsible and immoral actions.
Which is why I am writing this column right now. I encourage you to tell them to calm themselves, and just be quiet, to their face. But, for God's sake, without any violence!
