Monday night on Facebook, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend posted on Facebook that she visited with former President George H.W. Bush, and claimed that Bush told her he was voting for Hillary this year. Naturally, this news lit up Twitter like wildfire, mostly with stupid reactions.

President George H W Bush is reportedly voting for Hillary Clinton in November, according to a Facebook post from John F Kennedy’s niece.

The post by Kathleen Kennedy Townsend – the former lieutenant governor of Maryland and daughter of Robert F Kennedy – shows her posing with George H W Bush with the caption “The President told me he is voting for Hillary!!”

Townsend – writing on Facebook under the name Kathleen Hartington – has been a longtime vocal supporter of Clinton’s campaign.

Jim McGrath, a Bush family spokesman, told the Guardian “The vote President Bush will cast as a private citizen in some 50 days will be just that: a private vote cast in 50 days. He is not commenting on the presidential race in the interim.”

Stupid comments on Twitter include those saying that this proves elitists or establishment stick together, or that this confirms some nebulous unspecified thing that Trump said about something somewhere at some point.

But by far the most tweeted dumb thing is that this shows what a bunch of elitists they all are.

Another reasonable interpretation is available, though.

If I was W., H. W., or Jeb, I'd vote for an anal polyp before Trump. He made them enemies. No use crying about it now.

Trump was merciless to the Bush family, and has never corrected the record, taken any of it back, or in any way made peace. Why on earth Trumpers think Bush the elder should just forget all that and vote for him anyway is, frankly beyond me.

I wouldn’t. And I wouldn’t if I was Ted Cruz, either. You know, for a bunch of people who can’t stop talking about how manly and straightforward they are, Trump voters sure expect a lot of bowing and scraping from their fellow man. It’s really remarkable.

Maybe former President Bush, legitimate war hero, confirmed super old guy, and Vice President to the great Ronald Reagan will vote for Hillary Clinton, and maybe he won’t. But a bunch of redhats judging him disloyal because he won’t sell out his own children to support “mangod” is just nonsensical.

Get real. Or get bent. You know, whatever floats your boat.
