The ensoftening. I told you. I told you so. Did I mention that I told you so? I told you that I told you so.

Donald Trump and Donald Trump both spoke yesterday on the topic of immigration, and after his big speech last night, his sycophants (Ingraham) and psycho fans (Coulter) were beside themselves with elation that he was hard again. Tough. Ready. So much for softening, they said. Trump is going to take care of business.

Then this morning happened and yet another Trump showed up. After Tweeting several times how super serious he is that Mexico will pay for the wall, he was interviewed by fangirl Laura Ingraham, and he literally said, again, that he would be “softening.” That’s his word. I cannot stress enough how much it is Trump who used that word with his own voice and mouth.

Ingraham told him that his speech was tough and therefore “where’s the softening?” Obviously she meant this to say “you’re clearly not softening, that was tough and strong and muscles and Trump Tower.” But he didn’t go for that, he didn’t go for bragging on his boasting. Instead, well, he went soft.

Here is what he said:

Oh, there’s softening. Look, we do it in a very humane way, and we’re going to see with the people that are in the country.

Obviously, I want to get the drug dealers out, we’ve got a lot of people in this country that you can’t have, and those people we’ll get out. And then we’re going to make a decision at a later date once everything is stabilized.

I think you’re going to see there’s really quite a bit of softening.

Let’s review the journey so far:

This is just plain amazing. He’s saying they’re going to put off even deciding what to do about illegal immigrants who are already here. He’s not committing, period. We’re going to “stabilize” and then deal with it later. You know, like how Obama put a slight delay on closing Gitmo.

And then, he emphasizes that when he finally does get around to addressing the issue, he’ll be softening on it. Just fill in the rest here with all the other things he has said about letting some people stay, not breaking up families, and of course, his top surrogates copping to “virtual” deportations.

I told you earlier today that Trump left wiggle room in his 10 points last night. Folks, he just wiggled.

Trump’s immigration plans are not what his followers and fans think they are.

In closing, I leave you with the words of someone far wiser than myself.

You are one messed up year, 2016.
