Blogging The 2nd Annual Sammies

Wherein I meet Joe the Plumber, Michelle Malkin, Mary Katherine Ham (again), John Fund, Stephen Moore, and a host of great up and coming conservative bloggers.

A wrap up…

We conservatives have two major problems. I’ve said it dozens of times before but one of those problems is that we don’t do “join” well. The left, on the other hand, does “join” exceedingly well. They gather together, share resources, and help each other very, very well. The other problem we have is cash.

Again, the left funds as well as it joins. The left supports its side very handsomely with generous and constant donations. The left also has a bevy of deep pocketed supporters that target the new media with their money. Media Matters, George Soros, DailyKos, MoveOn.org, these people and entities flood the left-O-sphere with much need cash to further their message. Their tendrils reach far and wide and they control the message well with their cash.

Unfortunately, on the right we neither “join” well in coordinated efforts, nor do we have very many people or entities that help fund us directly. Nor do we even see organizations on the right that try to engage in efforts to help train and organize the conservative new media to disseminate the conservative, free market message via the New Media.

But the Sam Adams Alliance has stepped up to the plate to do just that and this is why the Second Annual Sammies, has come about. The Second Annual Award ceremony was held on April 18, 2009 in Northbrook, Illinois, just north of Chicago, at the Renaissance Chicago North Shore Hotel. So, with the cash prizes awarded to worthy bloggers at the Sammies, we find the Sam Adams Alliance fulfilling at least in some ways the effort to encourage conservative voices in the New Media as well as vote fraud watchdogs and good government activists. Money is always in short supply on the right, for sure, so this is a help. But even more importantly are the things that Sam Adams does behind the scenes to help coordinate bloggers, train them, and offer resources to further the message.

So, along with the big names — Michelle Malkin, Joe the Plumber, John Fund, et al — are the hard working bloggers and those new media worker bees that are bringing the conservative message to a country so inundated with leftist trope and propaganda.

Three cheers for Sam Adams Alliance. May more conservatives groups like this realize what the New Media can do for the conservative cause. And here’s wishing Sam Adams many years of continued support of the conservative New Media community.

TO THE WINNERS: CONGRATULATIONS.

Yeah, I admit that we need to support our own bloggers. RNC should be in the forefront of this kind of efforts.

Side notes:

You said Mary Katherine was “lovely”. You never said anything like that to Michelle. Michelle is a thing of beauty. And you were able to get a picture of her beside you, smiling. You’re one lucky b____. he he he!

I’m also proud of you, Warren.

Michelle?

Oh, you bet Michelle is a beauty. Sher is also one of the most gracious people you could meet in person. She is a credit to our side, for sure.

I wasn’t able to get a chance to get a photo of me and MKH. Last I met her we ate dinner seated next to each other at the Media Research Center’s Dishonor Awards in D.C. last year. I didn’t get a photo then, either. That MKH is an elusive creature! LOL

She’s ferocious when she needs to be.

That’s Malkin to me. Beautiful and gracious but …. ferocious.

What do you mean we don't join well....?

What about the tea parties or the amnesty debacle when millions of people burnt up the phone line in D.C.?The people are there Warren but they need a vehicle.Right-wing bloggers organizing together is a good start but what is your model?
The most successful political blog I am aware of is the Daily Kos.They might be a little less cohesive lately as they have achieved their major goal of taking back the White House and the halls of Congress but anyone familiar with that site knows they were a major force in the 2006 sweep of Congress by the Democrats.
They’re organized.
They set up a network. They had the support of political operatives and inside access to powerful politicians.
They were raising money online for their favorite candidates and they targeted those politicians they wanted to take down.
It was a good model.

Another good example is the Huffington Post.Sure they may be left-wing loons over there but they have a large following and a lot of celebrity bloggers and politicians who blog there. They are connected.

In my humble opinion I think it would be good to see a little more star power here. How about some Gary Sinise or a little Ted Nugent?Maybe our good friend Newt could drop in once in a while to say hello to the troops.Does anyone know Mitt Romney’s phone number?Wouldn’t it be quite the thrill to have Sarah Palin write a diary here once in a while?
When is Michelle going to write a little diary for us or maybe Laura Ingraham.
And now that we are on the subject why doesn’t the big kahuna himself Michael Steele, give us all the pleasure of his company?
Is he too busy to notice a little blog with the name Red State?
Who now is really guilty of not joining well?

I think there are many well trafficked conservative sites that red staters flock too but they are all complaining a lot more than they are organizing.Snarky diaries on Obama are fun to read but how do they further our goals to retake the White House?
Maybe from time to time some diaries that are a little more of a how to,where to and who to give to may be more productive.
When Michelle Malkin goes on her blog and gives us phone numbers and e-mails and shows us where to go to get our voices heard that can be a very powerful thing especially when people are hopping mad and motivated.
In my humble opinion.

Oh btw…did Michelle ask about me?

if you haven’t already. It’s right up top of this page.

As for your comment, I would just add that many of us right wing extremists are big joiners, just not necessarily of political organizations. We donate our time and money freely to churches, for example.

I used to consider myself a political independent. That is, until 2007/8 and the Year of the Socialist began.

Can we just pare it down to an e-mail?I’d rather not give out my real name and address online.

I still say it

Warner Todd Huston (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 11:35AM EST (link)

I still say that we don;t do “join” well. You point to the tea parties. True enough,. And that is practically the FIRST time in a long, long time we’ve come together as a movement to do anything. On the other hand the left does it routinely.

“I still say that we don;t do “join” well. You point to the tea parties. True enough,. And that is practically the FIRST time in a long, long time we’ve come together as a movement to do anything. On the other hand the left does it routinely.”

It was a tsnuami. It sent shock waves throughout the left.
The question now is …what’s next? How do we capitalize on the energy we saw last week.

You say that the left organizes routinely.Yes they do.Let’s copy the model. It’s successful.
When they have a war protest for example it isn’t always anti-war activists there. The have pro-choice groups and environmentalists and immigration activists and unionists and other who come together to form large crowds.
They alert sympathetic media as well for good PR.
Are we doing that?
Maybe when and if we have some more tea parties we can corral some NRA people and pro-lifers,veterans groups and church groups to join in as well to swell the ranks. We may not have as much sympathetic press coverage but we still have a lot of radio and internet allies to turn to for support.
Do we have any celebrity power we can turn to ?
The fuse has been lit.Let’s keep it burning.

Our problem is

Warner Todd Huston (Diary) Sunday, April 19th at 10:11PM EST (link)

Our problem is money. The left shifts TONS of cash into this sort of stuff. We do not. The left has people that “organize” for a living. We do not.

to the winners. Don’t stop!
Just thinking – and I am straying from the topic of kudos – I’ve thought for decades that one of the most fundamental differences between Liberals and Conservatives is their philosophical take on human existence and the formation of societies. The Liberals tend to be COLLECTIVISTS while the Conservatives tend to be INDIVIDUALISTS. Attached to these basic assumptions about humanity are a bunch of attitudes about responsibility, the value (or lack) of religion, political economy, self-defense, etc., etc. These underpinning philosophies color much of what we do in response to challenges, and admittedly are a decided advantage for the Liberals in the era of Leviathan government. The growth of Leviathan seems both a creation of and continuous enhancement of the collectivist philosophy.
It has long seemed fruitless for me to demand my individual rights and sovereignty from the collectivists, for they and I simply do not speak the same language – words like “freedom” appear to mean different things to them than to me. My dull brain can only come up with two approaches to challenge this wave of collectivism – insist on my sovereignty (and responsibility!) in all things personal, and fight, as possible, to restrict the size of Leviathan. I had hoped, by example, to preserve a world in which my children and grandchildren could exist as free individuals, enjoying their natural rights (their birthright as human beings), and avoid the maw of Leviathan. Perhaps the tipping point has come, and a new and more aggressive approach to the preservation of the republic and individualism is now needed. Thinking about an army of Davids…and how do you get a bunch of individualists to pursue a common cause against Leviathan? They would all have to be volunteers…
Oh, yeah – and MKH is gorgeous.
