Things on the United States' southern border could hardly get any worse (and when one starts assuming things can't get worse, Worse has a way of showing up and saying, "Hold my beer.") Someone has to be held responsible for this mess, and the person whose name is on the blame line is Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Now, this week, the House Committee on Homeland Security, under Chairman Mark Green (R-TN), has held its first hearing initiating impeachment proceedings against Secretary Mayorkas.
This week, the House Committee on Homeland Security, led by Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN), held its first hearing initiating impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The hearing evaluated the impacts of the worst border crisis in American history not just on border states, but states throughout the heartland, and how Secretary Mayorkas’ refusal to enforce the immigration laws passed by Congress and interpreted by the federal Judiciary is responsible for sparking and perpetuating this crisis.
These proceedings follow the Committee’s nearly year-long investigation into the causes, costs, and consequences of the unprecedented crisis at America’s borders, and how Secretary Mayorkas’ actions and decisions are the foundation of the crisis. Witness testimony was provided by Austin Knudsen, Montana attorney general; Gentner Drummond, Oklahoma attorney general; Andrew Bailey, Missouri attorney general; and Frank Bowman, professor emeritus of law at the University of Missouri School of Law. Watch the full hearing here. Read Chairman Green’s op-ed on the initiation of these proceedings here.
This comes only days after a group of House Republicans, including Speaker Mike Johnson and more than 60 House Republicans, took a tour of the southern border to assess the situation first-hand.

GOP Homeland Security Releases Epic Illegal Immigration Video As the Mayorkas Impeachment Starts
Here's the key takeaway from the initial hearings from House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark Green:
“But let me be clear: No one is impeaching Secretary Mayorkas over policy differences. The impeachable offenses relate to violations of the law. Insisting on enforcing the law as written by Congress is not a policy difference. It is a fundamental requirement of the Constitution.”
That's a clear statement, indeed. None of this is about partisanship. None of this is about scoring political points, although that may well be a fringe benefit for House Republicans. This is about enforcing the law, a body of law that the Biden Administration has been ignoring since January 2021. Illegal immigration is spiking. "Sanctuary cities" have been overrun to the point where they are displacing kids from their schools to house illegal aliens. The Mayor of New York and the Governor of Massachusetts have both floated the idea of housing illegals in private homes, which would be voluntary on the part of the homeowners — for now. And the Biden administration wants $20 billion for housing for illegal aliens who shouldn't be here in the first place — in a nation which, I remind you, is already in debt to the tune of $34 trillion.
Add to that the fact that, when one looks at the videos and still images in the articles linked above, it's apparent that a majority of the people illegally entering the country are young, fit, military-aged men. That's disconcerting, especially when one considers that the Biden administration essentially welcomes them in without troubling themselves over much as to who these people are, where they come from, where they intend to go, or what they intend to do when they get there.
Someone needs to be held to account. For now, holding Secretary Mayorkas accountable is a good start. Holding the Democrats accountable at the ballot box this November would have a much more lasting effect.
