What has happened to us?

I just watched the NBA pregame show for Knicks vs. Heat on TNT.  For some bizarre reason, the commentators brought up Sarah Palin.  The next thing I heard was that she was “masturbation material”, not once, but twice.  Why in the hell does a sports show need to bring up Sarah Palin?  And why does she need to be sexualized?  Forget politics for a moment.  If we are so far down in the toilet that sport shows talk about masturbation material, with Sarah Palin as a tool, what does that say about us as a nation?

and tell them exactly what you said above.

“Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.” ~ Ronald Reagan

The only way to stop that is to let them know of your disgust. nt

I wonder what the reaction would be if he had said that about Michelle Obama.

Of course some people can get away with saying anything.
TNT sports is now off my list of stations I watch.

They say Republicans are for the rich, Democrats are for the poor.
If they need more voters,
then they have to make more of who they are for.

We are there in the various Tea Party groups, leaderless, but not rudderless.
We steer always toward the Constitutional principles this nation was founded upon.

TNT apologizes for Tracy Morgan's suggestive comments on Sarah Palin

More

“It’s unfortunate Mr. Morgan showed a lack of judgment on our air with his inappropriate comments,” said Turner spokesman Jeff Pomeroy in a statement.

TNT shot off the statement within minutes of phone calls and emails about Morgan’s comments from Game On!

The sitcom star’s comments set Twitter afire before TNT’s telecast of the New York Knicks-Miami Heat at New York’s Madison Square Garden. “Wow, did Tracy Morgan really just say that?,” asked one tweet.

Yeah, I bet they’re sorry.

What does it say about us as a Nation?

conservativecurmudgeon (Diary) Friday, January 28th at 8:32AM EST (link)

It says we are a people obsessed with the juvenile. It says we know nothing of what real art, and real sport, and real dignified culture is. It says we have a coterie of people in charge of the mainstream entertainments that have absolutely no judgment.

It says that the vulgar is now the norm. It says that those who have been chosen as sports icons to be celebrated have been thoroughly steeped and corrupted in a toxic soup of immodest and sophomoric sexuality, slobbering adulation, and mis-education.

It says we are fairly, willfully ignorant. It says we are tasteless and crude. It says we are reflexively unconcerned with other peoples’ feelings. It says we all-to-easily objectify those that have been chosen as public talismans for scorn.

That, and a lot more.

Below it says “Be respectful, or be banned. No Profanity”. A reasonable censor for a public forum. The editors of this site make it clear there are respectful and civil boundaries that will have consequences if crossed.

The same is true for everyone, in a free society. Whether it be government sponsored censorship, private industry or individual. Civil, moral and respectful people are offended and have a smorgasbord of choices to affect the individual and company guilty of the offense.

What does it say about what has happened to us? Human beings have not evolved all that much in the last 2000 years. Living in a free society is however, a significant change in human history. This is the price we pay to be free.

“To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his father’s has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association—the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.” – Thomas Jefferson -
