The most recent official update about Steve Scalise, who was wounded last month when an unhinged liberal shot up a baseball field full of GOP congressmen and senators, indicated that the congressman from Louisiana had been upgraded to fair condition by MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

Now comes word from Congressman Phil Roe of Tennessee that Scalise is “just out of bed.” Scalise is presumably now able to get out of bed, which sounds like tremendous progress since the gunshot wound he sustained wreaked serious damage to his hip and some internal organs.

“He’s had a very, very, serious injury,” Roe said. “He’s not able to eat yet, but he is getting better.”

Roe also revealed that Scalise and his family were due to be on vacation this week in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Since the Scalises were unable to make the trip, Roe has issued an invitation for Scalise to join him for this Fall’s college football showdown between the University of Tennessee and Scalise’s beloved Louisiana State University Tigers.

Let’s pray that Scalise is able to accept this invitation.
